its not an mmo like warcraft, and the controls a unique and take a bit to get used to. it can almost be played like a shooter for the combat part of the game.
there are some people who built some money up sweating creatures (wierd sounding right?)
sold the sweat and used that to get started and got some really nice loot which allowed them to be successful.
there are real rpg elements, theres no character levels. when you have is professions.
skills level up and every leve you gain in a skill adds a % to a profession. when the bar on the profession fills up it increases in level.

the higher your level in these, the more hp you obtain, the better weapons and tools you can use, and the higher grade gear you can craft with better success rates.

Hey Lateris There are a group of non-depositers who do have items that many loyal depositers can only dream off. They have a form of getting "sweat" from creatures which has a value of about 40 cents per 1000. You do that for some time and save up to either trade items with hunters/miners (always eager to sell things a little under market value so they can continue their activities) or try your own luck hunting or mining. If you try to advance to quick you will feel ripped-off. but if you start with your basic level equipment you can very easily maintain your ammo through the hunting/mining loot to continue on for some time.
I for one am a depositer and enjoy the game immensly. I have been a member since 2005 and have nothing uber, but I have enough to get by and have fun. The community aspect of the game needs some work... (i.e. missions that make you team up with other players, although some monster you can't kill without 5-10 of your buddies) Overall I have deposited around $550 which equates to right under $15 a month.

To all these players who think this game is a scam:
I have been playing for only four months and my total skills and items are worth, say, $20. This shows that you cannot make a profit while having fun at the same time. The only way I know to make any income out of this game is to trade items, which requires an immense amount of patience. You look for items to buy. To get a good deal you must wait ~1 hour to find one. Then wait 1 hour to sell it. In the process you make a few PED, which amounts to about 20 cents. If you want to make money, there is a secret technique that you must learn but it demands about $400 to get started. I will not tell you it, because this technique must be discovered by oneself as it is quite complicated and even if I did tell you you probably woudn't understand it anyway. There are many players who do think this is a scam, I suggest they play other MMORPGs which require less patience and/or money, may I suggest Runescape.

When is this update going to be finished? I can't wait to get back.

I can buy a new game like farcry2 or some other crap. Then I have already lost 40-50 dollars, because it is all free: ammo, weapons, heal boxes, clothes, armor. But If I deposit 20-30 dollars into Planetcalypso I get: a free game, a very big landscape with nice graphic, 2 kontinents to explore, alot a kind poeple from all over the world to chap with while im playing for real money.
Now that is fun.

Well, This game can for starters be played without depositing, U will make up for the that in time spent inworld though..

There are alot of succes stories out there who started with nothing and are now top players with accounts worth 10's of thousands of dollars.
at times, bad or good.

Its worth a shot, try running around exploring for free, finding stones and fruits which u can sell and sweating animals for your first basic gun and the thrill of taking down your first mob.
Its a very fun game to play, even when on budget as the social side is very good and the community is very close to the game, and even as weird as it seems to the creators

its a different game then anything else outthere and u dont need rl skills to be succesfull. just some brains or instinct.

I personally like both Planet Calypso and Second Life. I play both for different reasons, PC is a great place to adventure and explore. The scenery before VU10.0 was very nice and I am certain it will be stunning when the VU is finally online. I have worked on my hunting / weapons skills a lot over the past year and am now what one might consider a lower - med level hunter. Still can't take on the huge mobs without getting mashed to pulp by them but I don't back down from many that I might accident upon. Littler robots and smaller mobs are toast though. One thing I found odd in PC when i first started is that skill levels have no top and as such there is no so called "end game" where you have amassed 70 or 80 leveles of grinding and finally meet the big boss. In PC as you explore the world going from one city / location to the next to aquire the teleports you might run into the biggest of all mobs ever. These big mobs will of course eat you for a snack. But luckily death is temporary and you will end up in a nice Outpost somewhere safe and fully revived.

I also run one of the 5 banks in the game, Anshe Bank Entropia in New Oxford. The bank licenses were sold on the ingame auction a bit over 2 years ago. This feature is a nice addition to the game. For instance people that have looted weapons or armor or other items can bring them to our bank and get a loan on that item. They can use these PEDs to continue game play or whatever. We also have a nice shop in the lower level of the bank where we sell crafting supplies and other exotic materials. I buy these from a couple of the societies in game and from new people that have found these sort of items.

So there is an interesting immersive side to all this. Its not all running around shooting stuff, but that part is kinda fun :P

I've been playing entropia for 2 weeks now to this day. I would just like to say that IT IS possible to play the game and have fun without depositing anything at all, you just have to work for it. I currently own basic hunting gear (2 guns, a full set of armor, and plenty of ammo), full basic mining gear (both ore and enmatter), and also some beginner blueprints for manufacturing. I made this from 'sweating' and then selling the sweat to mindforce users. I am a member of a society and have already met a few players i consider in game friends in the short amount of time that i've been playing. I've mined some ores and enmaters, killed quite a few mobs, and you know what... i lost more PED than i looted from the hunts, and spent more PED on mining than i gained during the mining ops. However, i gained skills and those skills gained are investments for my future (in game of course).

Above all If you are thinking about joining, do your research first... I read everything i could find to read about entropia to figure out what i needed to do before i jumped on board, you should do that too and i guarantee you can have fun and be successful like i have!

EU or Planet Calypso is what you make it, really. I have been participating for around 4 years now and have deposited some cash over the years of course. But the last 2 years I have not needed too. You will never get your money back from the system directly, but can easily finance your gaming with markup on stuff you loot and sell to other players.

It is all about research really, if you dont do your homework you can easily loose big money in no time at all.

Hello, i m a 4 years old players of EU, and yes, this is not a game for most of you. In other game u have an end point: kill the final monster (for example), here we haven t , in other game you can gain skills to hit the top level, in EU we have no skills limit, no top level. In other game you pay x$ a month to play , in EU you can enjoy the game with no deposit at all. EU is not a simple game, i guess a lot of people take a look and quit in few days. In effect it s a very compless game, where you need to learn how to manage you money, skills, and relationship. All this at the end will make a difference between enjoy or not the EU experience. It s not a game for all of you. It s a very compless game, often it s not a funny game at all, it can be very frustrating. Actually under many point of view it look like real life, where competence and lucky contribute at your happiness. It s not a game for most of view all also because people interact creating web resource game related. Not just simple forums, but more compless stuff, like skills calculator, enciclopedia, trade system (entropiabay.com), radio, etcetc. Also the realization of those beside webresources for us are very important and also if unofficial , also this is part of the game. Eu is a very compless game, it s not for all for sure.

I was directed this way from a post on the very active player-run Entropia Forum about this article. It's nice to see the coverage of EU here, and be reminded just how alien the concept is. When i first created my avatar in 2005, It was a new and wonderful thing to be explored. That's one of the really great things about EU: it's very open-ended. I have spent a lot of time trying to understand and unravel the various systems in the game, because that's something that appeals to me. EU is what you make of it. You can spend your entire time helping orient and mentor newcomers, be a solitary miner, run a society, and so forth.

Frankly, i had gotten a bit bored of late and been busy with other things. To have a completely refreshed game world (excuse me, universe) and an engine to facilitate much more complexity and detail than ever before showing up this week has me as excited as a kid at Christmas, and you'll find that's true of many players.

I did not mention that it was, i was simply stating that the game was being called that. Although i agree, and I'm glad that the devs are looking into this, I had friends who made a living in the game, and if they didn't turn that one ore, meant no food for a week. it was a bit, over the top.

I look forward to changes, I really want to see the game turn into something worth playing (Not that it isn't now mind you.)

Like many of us my friend :)

I am not easily scared off when a concept project starts to stray off course.
This is natural to experience the possibilities - Both the good and the bad that comes with doing so.

I intend to stick with Entropia for the long haul, yet this is one of the fundermental concerns (Flaws in a more real context) with the service that is continually being worked on.

As a participant, I have been constantly on their case about it, the motivation behind this being that I have followed MindArk through the media for a long time now - Even the years prior to joining.

The reality is - these elements have been the negative handicap, the parasite if you will that has been holding back the service from ' REAL ' success in the market - Including the proper defining of the RCE lateral in the micro-transaction marketspace.

It is good see your attitude is also positive in reference to Entropia Universe.
It has a lot of untapped potential which needs to be unlocked before it can prove the validity & success of the concept.

Cheers & maybe I will run into you one day.

I've been playing EU since around March and played it for a short bit back when it was PE. I have to say that its the best community of players that I have been a part of. I've played and tried to play other mmos/mmorpgs like mxo, lotro, wow, eve. EU is by far the most mature community that I have interacted with. As far as game play, I have fun but like all things you have your good days and your bad days. Over all my experiences have been good.
I'm not rich I don't have the money to invest and make myself rich off of EU like some others. I typically deposit any where from 10 to 25 dollars at a time, I started out hunting for the first few weeks and then went into mining. Since I've started mining I've deposited less and less. Eventually getting me to the point where my avatar life can support it self. My goals are to one day own a shop and a apt in game among other things it will take time, but I'll get there.
I currently DJ for Atlas Haven Radio (which is a station for the EU community,) which has enhanced my game play and gotten me more involved with the community. EU isn't for everyone and if your looking to get rich quick then its not for you either. EU isn't your typical game. It's more of a virtual world then a mmorpg. EU has no end. It's for people who want to have a alternate life.
I am my avatar :)

Second Life and Planet Calypso are totally different. Second Life focuses on socialising, where as Planet Calypso is much more of a traditional skilling and hunting / professions based MMO. The only thing the two have in common is a real cash economy. Planet Claypso is far more appealing to actual gamers, rather than Second Life, which is just full of perverts and child porn rings.

Hi Vuga,

This may help you get your facts straight about the article you submitted as a link.

http://www.cosmoloan.com/money-management/richest-gamers-who-have-turned-virtual-money-to-cash.html

Next time read articles before you use what you see as returned queries from a search engine as an assumption that Marc Collins Rector has anything to do with Entropia Universe.

Marco Collins Rector was involved with IGE - the gold selling company that supplies virtual currency to games such as wow, everquest and other such MMO games.

I can see how you made such an impulsive association through a search such as:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Marc+Collins+entropia+universe&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-au:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=

Notice the ' ... '

the .... in the search return query means it has split up the content of the article to give you snipette reviews of the link.

Have a nice day.

dargondarkfire doesnt know what he is talking about. First, you dont have to provide any birth certificate or anything. All you need is a valid email address and anybody can join and even have multiple accounts as long as each account is tied to a different email and login. Secondly. I have played this "game" called PE/Entropia/Planet Calypso for 4 years ans i can honestly say i love the game but lets be truthful about it. It IS a gambling setting and it IS a casino and it IS NOT likely you will EVER profit. That being said it IS fun and very interesting and a great environment to explore and meet new friends. You most likely will NEVER get anywhere unless you deposit real money. I know, I and spent nearly 10K USD in the last 4 years just to "play" and have never made a single profit or withdrawn any funds into my real life accounts. I'm not bitter about this, this was my money and this is how i chose to spend it but I do want people to know the truth about Entropia. Dont expect to come into this game and make money. it just is not going to happen.

Proof : http://www.entropiareality.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176

Now you go sell you PR BS to someone else we are not fools.

Hi Vuga,

The point being made is that you entertain the idea that this person is some sort of keynote participant in Entropia and is somehow highly active within 18+ adult community that Entropia is primarily made up of.

I am not here to PR you, nor to fool you, however I will give you my real opinion;

From the last two years of getting to know a large portion of the participant base on some level or another, this kind of activity or people involved in the violation of minors has not been noticed.

I am happy you know all the facts Vuga, you have me there.

I do not near know most of the facts about the service, its employees/employers, their intentions, nor the participant base and what goes on day to day within the virtual world environment.

I will be sure to make the suggestion that they add to their application form (avatar registration) the question of - Are you a pedo ? or have you been involved in any recent abuse of minors ? (sarcasm)

I am sure in time as online virtual life evolves and grows, such measures will be put in place to make such checks upon avatar registration;

I would imagine this will come over the period of the next decade with the full regulation of the micro-transaction industry which inroads are already being made into with governments, their governing bodies and various financial institutions with the recognition of the tied value of virtual currency to real world currency.

With all this being said, again, I am glad you know all the facts and I do not for a second take you as a fool, yet to portray the ideal that Entropia Universe or any other virtual world service within the MT industry such secondlife, afterworld, perfectworld, mytheon, etc is just ridiculous.

This just makes you look foolish if that is all the traction you have in an attempt to down Entropia Universe as a service within the industry.

As in my replies to Zed,

I have not talked up Entropia, I have not talked down Entropia. I have merely stated how it is at present and the intentions of where is looking to head as per the new CEO's statement.

That is all, I am not looking to have a pissing contest based on semantics.

Cheers & gl out there with whatever you choose to do.
