Good Luck, they'll need it. Nothing interesting, or revolutionary is in that game as far as I can tell, and they're entering a crowded Fantasy MMO market. Until I have played a trial and know I will love it, there is no way they're getting my money.

@ Whi It's not completely altered from the eastern version, it IS the exact same as the Korean version, Aion is just not a grind fest from the start, except for those dead zones fom 20 to 30 which have been fixed with more quests and content in the latest patch.. So....

Well, more power to them, I guess. I am currently playing WoW and have enjoyed playing GW and LotRO. But Aion? No, I don't think so.

Aion just has zero appeal to me. I'd sooner stick with WoW, go back to LotRO for a while, or try something new, like, CO, than play Aion.

After being in Aion's Beta, I think they are being a little unrealistic.
While visually it's a lovely looking game it lacks substance. There is lazy coding abound and the Flight system while unique is not as originally advertised. (NCSoft recently redesigned their Aion site with far better explanations of it's limitations - Granted I am a little bitter on that point.) It also lacks a lot of the Western "comforts" in controls that we take for granted in many other games such has inverted mouse and left click camera panning when character is in motion.

While some of these things can be corrected over time (even on the to-do list); with so very many MMO's coming out over the next year it will be a battle of game play, polish, customer service, niches and story.

It's really aggravating when people try and state things as facts when they are wrong. The game has all of the western commendations you want (left click camera move, invert) in patch 1.2 or 1.5 (I think 1.2?) while our beta is in 1.0.

Also how is the flying lazy coding? If you aren't smart enough to figure out why the game should have limited flying than I'm sorry. Calling it lazy coding, however, is stupid.

Patch 1.5, and it was on NCSoft's "to-do" list simply because they didn't know exactly which patch they would be getting until just a few weeks ago. So I concede that point.

""Also how is the flying lazy coding? If you aren't smart enough to figure out why the game should have limited flying than I'm sorry. Calling it lazy coding, however, is stupid.""

I didn't say Flight was lazy coding those are two separate points. The lazy coding such as poorly made invisible boundary that are easy to glitch through and the non existent Swimming Physics where you merely take damage under water. They can make a game feel boxy and not fluid, like your part of a flat fake world. You should either be able to not enter it at all to maintain the illusion or actually swim.

I have no issue how they choose to do flight it's used strategically and managed like HP and Mana. I have issue with how they falsely stated flight as being much more then what it really was. I certainly was not the only person as it was often on the beta forums and most likely why their wiki is so informative on it now.

So personally, I'll give my free 30 days a go with my early start but I'm certain this isn't the MMO for me. It may be for you and I hope you enjoy it.

@Jasdemi

I suppose you have never made a mistake? Perhaps your incapable of human error. I sincerely wish I was that lucky. I pre-ordered without knowing all the facts and are un-able to get a refund. ::shrugs:: It happens, but this point I have it so why not play what I paid for?

Guild Wars 2 will be better than Aion and it will only be 2nd to WOW. The other is The Old Republic which will have a massive following as well. Sorry Aion but you offer gamers only flight and a new coat of paint. The rest of the game is rehashed ideas back since WOW released, which is what 5 years ago ?

I would say incoming crying about "limited flight times" and "korean game" but it seems like I've been beaten by the twelve posts ahead of me. I'm not about to beat a dead horse by trying to correct them as, alas, most aren't going to listen anyways.

Striving for a 2nd place is not totally unrealistic looking at the market right now. It is interesting to hear NCSoft say this however, as there has literally been no real "hype" built up by NCSoft for Aion so far.

As long as it has that GameGuard crap on it expect Aion to be second only to Vanguard.

Gameguard is the 100% deal killer for me. If they can't get that fixed I can almost guarantee this game will tank.

Myself and 2 other friends got beta keys for the weekend fileplanet was giving them out. All 3 of us had problems related to gameguard. I had to disable all my security software (firewall etc) to get it to work, and the first friend having same issues (and runs the same security software) just swore at ncsoft and deleted the game after I figured out what my problem was. Third friend, we spent probably 2hrs research reading the forums to figure out how to get it to work with the errors we were having related to his Vista.

There is absolutely positively no way I would get the game with it's current state of gameguard "protection." You can read the forums and see that that the gameguard does absolutely nothing to prevent abuse on the Asian servers and causes problems with a large number of normal legit users.

Personally I think game officials should just keep their mouths shut on how well their game will do. Particular in exorcising the use World of Warcraft from every document and soundbite they release. But rather just let the game speak for itself when it's released. If it's good...people will play it.

I think the game will be good. I don't think it will be as good as WoW.

Honestly I think that saying the game is un-original is warranted, However if you are one of the many players out there that is getting annoyed by the way the four or five guys still developing wow are doing there job( I say that as an exaggeration naturally but honestly I would rather assume that the dev team over there was reduce to a skeleton crew than believe they could ever be this half assed.) Then aion is a good choice for a change of scenery. The game functions similarly to wow in how it works but seems very well though out rather than every thing just being an after thought. The combat system is far superior to wow's and is a lot more fun. The animations are really fantastic and make playing your character a truly enjoyable experience.

And to all these people regurgitating this "eastern" term, you really are sounding quite racist. You act as if there is some sort of culture shock when logging in to the game world, and that's bs. The design of the world is more European inspired than any thing else and the lore pulls from middle eastern religions such as christianity and zaro-astianism. There is almost no hint of this "eastern" design. The character creation system is so detailed you could litterally make a character of any ethnicity that you want. So don't try to say all the characters look "eastern". If you are a racist than just go Fu*k your self cause your opinions are worthless.

By eastern MMO's they aren't talking so much art style although there is an element to that too. Eastern MMO's tend to ahve all or soem of these features:

1) Elfish/girlish features on their people, thin people, spiky anime style hair.
2) Limited graphical character customizations, characters tend to look alike with only minor color differences.
3) Non customizable classes. Every character of a class tends to ahve the same exact skills the same exact way. Skill customization is much more common in western MMO's.
4) The grind. Eastern MMO's tend to be much more grindy then western MMO's.
5. Bigger focus on PVP or non-optional PVP.
6. Less customizable UI.

Western MMo's on the other hand favor customization and individuality.
Furthermore his comment about Tabula Rasa only cements my belief that Tabula Rasa was making money on a month to month basis but that having it constantly visible was a tremendous loss of Face and thus why it was canned and even bringing it up is regrettable. I think They plastered Garriots name all over it then yanked much of the game direction away from where he wanted to go when he wanted a more western style MMO then they did. The failure is theirs and they deserve to be reminded of it every week.

Saying Aion isnt doing anything new is fine, but then stating things like Lotro, WoW, ToR are doing something new is laughable. Those games are the same as Aion at the core. Not saying they wont be successful but to say those games are not the same old stuff is stupid.

As for Aion itself...it definatley has the potential to be big. Not sure if it will be 2nd to WoW but it sure as hell is better already.
