Hit the jump to see these four pillars of evil-doing in action.
Where would a superhero story be if it didn't include a cast of dastardly supervillains for the good guys to face off against? In Champions Online, the Nemesis system will allow players to customize their own ultimate enemy boss -- but that doesn't mean that there aren't top tier villains already built into the game's lore, planning evil deeds and waiting for brave heroes to challenge them. The game's latest trailer (located past the break) introduces some of these big bosses and shows groups of players in combat with them. Qwyjibo, Kigatilik, Grond and Dr. Destroyer make up the roster for the video, and from the looks of things, each of them will put up a mean fight when cornered on their home turf.

These have got to be the dumbest names for villains in any game ever.

Champions was a campy superhero game, what do you expect? Besides, if you take the time to think about it, most villain names in most games are nonsensical and stupid.

So, do you just hate on Champions Online because you have nothing better to do than camp Massively waiting for another CO story to be the first to bash? I mean, really? Have you even played the game?

Oh, i thought this was the internet. I didn't realize my opinions needed to be founded by substance.

No. Kdolo is the dumber.

It's not trademarked and neither is it in an MMO.

Meh. It doesn't look like they improved on the CoH gameplay much. Still two relatively immobile sides duking it out; the camera moves a lot more than the participants do. But I'll be hitting beta next week, will see if they actually innovated or only polished a formula.
What I would have liked to see were heroes doing flybys on the monsters, getting swatted two city blocks away, maybe even have specific hit locations on the enemies to signify weak points.
As for the names, did you really just say you can't wait to fight Qwyjibo? Why not Poiuyt? I've seen monkeys make better names hitting a keyboard randomly.

I've said it before above, early Simpsons reference. Description below. ;)
"Kwyjibo", a fake Scrabble word invented by Bart in "Bart the Genius"
Bart lays down all his tiles in the order they were placed on his letter stand. He invents the word "Kwyjibo" explaining it as meaning "a bald, overweight, North American ape of below average intelligence"
Come on, how can you not love that?? ;)

I agree ryan. I don't care what others say, I love the names.
I just hope they change some of the sound effects. I couldn't stand CoH rehashing sound effects on new powers so it is even less acceptable in a new game. I have 4 large libraries of sound effects that are royalty free so I don't understand why they are re-used so much when they probably have even more available to them.

Something that i see in that video that i HATE in every MMO i see is the "huge boss syndrome". Even human character bosses become frigging HUGE. I hate it in every game it's in. The only reason the boss is huge is because of characters around it and wanting to make it "dramatic". Giants and Dragons and such, fine. People, no. Stop it. If the boss is like Giant Man, fine, he can change size. It's something i loved CoH for, all the villains were normal sized. I'm sure Arthas is going to be a monster when he is open to raid, when he's a friggin human and no reason to be more than slightly larger.
(sorry, rant over)

I think all huge enemies shown are giants.
if nothing else the super villain is normal sized.

Doctor Destroyer is (or was at least according to the old lore) a normal human in power armor. Even if the armor adds a foot or so to his height, he shouldn't be any larger than a normal person. No larger than say, Defender, not towering over him like they show at the end of the video (not counting the giant-sized Destroyer-bots). The same with Grond. He's basically the Hulk-analog and slightly taller than a normal human, not more than twice the size. The other villians shown I'm not familiar with, so I don't know if they are supposed to be giants or not, but still...

The bosses are always gigantic so the mouth-breathers in your raid can click on them through the socks they have to wear on their hands to keep from poking themselves in the eye.

I didn't like the art style at the beginning but it's beginning to grow on me.
I read you can disable the outline & tone down the 4-coloredness (yes i know that's not a real word). So should look really good.
Open beta 5 days and counting.
