I haven't played any of the games listed, so I won't comment on those but I do subscribe to Ryzom. The community is great and helpful, and on the rare occasion that someone gets disruptive or starts using abusive language, the CSRs are quick to jump in and rectifiy the situation.

The final results of this poll should be adjusted to account for the number of people playing the particular game. Since WoW has more than 10 times the subscription rate of its nearest competitor on that list, and most WoW players have never played anything else, the rate of votes for WoW will be disproportionate, even if it had the worst PUGs of any game ever (which it does).

Adjusting for population, it seems like LoTRO and CoH are the real winners.

Maybe this poll comes down to what you think "best" means. Most skillful? Most likely to finish the dungeon? Most likely to chat during whatever it is the pug has come together to do? Least likely to ragequit? Most likely to /friend you afterward? Least likely to boot you from a team due to gear, level, class, or skills?

I've played 10/14 of the games on that list (plus several others that weren't listed and should be) and I can easily say that I am most comfortable pugging in WoW. I can be relatively confident that the people will be polite if not aggressively friendly in groupchat, and I can expect a general familiarity with the game and a competence that will render our success likely. A solid half of pugs will succeed, and getting into one will be fairly easy.

That is not an endorsement of the community at large, which is just as poor as everywhere else. That said, I am not playing WoW right now; I am playing Guild Wars, SWG, and City of Heroes (CoH comes in second, in my mind, strictly for pugging). What do they lack that WoW has? People. Lots and lots of people, who are willing to pug, and familiar with how it works. And having lots of people is really most of the issue.

The brainless WoW-bashing on this site is just as tiresome as the brainless WoW-endorsement, tbh. We get it, you're a contrarian individualist fighting Big Blizzard. Now can we get back to game theory?

I would go with FFXI over any of these... though I mostly play WoW now because I don't have the time to commit to something more serious, FFXI has the best PUG's of any MMO I've ever played.... probably because you have to play in PUG's and if you get blacklisted you may as well quit the game.

i dont play wow anymore specifically because of the community, and ill agree with a couple of other posters coh had some very nice people playing. to me the community is #1 problem with some games, ive even considered never playing mmos again because of the kind of people who play them.

ddo should run away with this poll. It's unfortunate that people just see the words World of Warcraft and automatically vote for it.

Never have a played a game with friendlier or more competent pug's than ddo. People know the quests and are always happy to answer questions and give helpful tips to newer players. I wish more games had the friendly atmosphere of ddo.

Hey Hey

EQ2 pre-TSO had some great Pugs , sur ether ewhere a few zones where you need a specific class but most of the time you just went in and kill shit , and had a good time. However w/ no dungeons, every thing is instanced now , and for the most part scripted to some degree, they have become a real hit or miss. FFXI had great groups, may have taken a while to find a tank or a healer but once you got started they where great. MMO's are too solo friendly in the current incarnation. I voted for Free Realms, for lack of better options.

You show me a poll where it says 28% of the players think WoW has the best PUGs, and I'll show you a poll where 28% of the voters are smoking pot.

To give a little credit to WAR. 9/10 pugs I was in when doing city dungeons (or oRvR) were fantastic.

On the other hand 9.5/10 pugs I was in when doing dungeons in WoW were beyond terribad.

I don't know how anyone can say FFXI had good pugs. If you weren't an in demand it would take hours to get into a group. I remember being a thief wasting my time looking for groups.

I voted WoW for the sheer number as other people mentioned. It is so easy to find a pug and was the only game with a good/useful tool for finding a pug.

This is nothing more then a demonstration of ignorance. WoW pugs are notorious for being some of the worst in the genre but if that's all you know then what else are you going to vote for...

PS ~ voted EQ myself

There is only one good thing i can say about WoW. The vast majority (but admittedly not all) of the 11 millions people playing the game are people I don't want to group with or know at all. Every player in WoW is one less douche bag to infect the other MMO's. As a game WoW has some nice features but i'll happily sacrifice it to keep the rest of the genre healthy.

I just love it when a persons opinion is suddenly turned into a fact. Take macabre, for example. He said "The WoW community is piss-poor." Not I think it is. He is trying to force his views on other people, and doesn't seem to realise everyone looks for different things in their games.
Blizzard caters to this, by cramming absolutely everything into theirs, often at cost to quality of gameplay.
This about this, everything you say here about a game is your opinion, not a fact...in less of course you are quoting statistics or something.

Vanguard has a great community in my experience. People are generally glad to help each other out... the lack of instancing also helps because you don't necessarily have to group with someone to run into them in a dungeon.

Phantasy Star Universe is also pretty good. It's a game where soloing is far more time-consuming than grouping, so almost everyone groups, and PUGs are commonplace and easy to join. I almost think that ease-of-joining a group will is a good measure of how good the average PUG will be.

Add me to the FFXI not being on the list is a crime band wagon. The poll creator is an idiot for leaving that one out. EVE not being on there is fine, there are no EVE pugs. I've played EVE for 2.5 years and FFXI for 3 and i've tried plenty of wow, vanguard, EQ2 etc.... None of the other MMOs have a clue what a good PUG is.

I normally enjoy polls, but this is as valid as a high school president election: a popularity contest with no substance.
