While attention might be shifting towards Star Wars: The Old Republic, Star Wars: Galaxies is still going strong and SOE yesterday released an extensive set of patch notes for Update 12, focusing primarily on Engineering Traders. These include an obscene number of new droids for you to play with. Some are now craftable by Engineers, there are droids for battle and some (but not all) even have decals, allowing you to change how your mechanical companions will look.
On top of this, Engineers will now be able to craft cybernetic parts including hands, arms, legs and torsos. To commemorate this addition, every player will get an odd little gift when they log on: a holographic display depicting the cybernetic arm of everybody's favourite Jedi, Luke Skywalker. Weird but also kind of cool. The update will also contain new quest content for level 50 characters, two new vehicles and various bug fixes. For a full list, we suggest you head on over to the official site and check out the patch notes for yourselves.

You hear that? That's the sound of nobody caring.
GG SOE at making one of the largest movie franchises, ever, fail as a video game.

I ... hope you're joking.
That's a joke right?
That's got to be a joke?
I mean, I don't care for the QQing 4 years later.. but "fixed" SWG? I mean, if the goal was to ostracize 100s of thousands of players, ok... fixed!

I can't tell if that's sarcasim or you are legally insane! We are all entitled to our opinions but that's a far out there opinion. I'm guessing around 75-80% of the game's population left because of the NGE. The core SWG game was fine until the CU. That was the start of the decline. I liked the traditional MMO combat system SWG had mixed with the skill point mix and match class system. No levels just skill points to spend however you wished. They took the game from 32 classes down to 9!!!! Jedi was made a starter class! SWG might still be going but it's far from still going strong.

Anybody who thinks that didn't play it before NGE or CU. Or else they only played it a tiny bit and never understood how much better the game worked.
The char progression, the combat, the immersion, the community, etc.. all 1,000,000% better before NGE.

Couple of things here.
Until recently 'I' was one of the people who used to bitch about SWG and would cite the reasons why the NGE sent me to WoW.
Thing is, I was working abroad at the time it hit, so I came back to a completely different game that everyone else had pretty much settled into (if not entirely accepted) and I was not a happy Durni.
About a month ago I realised that I was burned out with WoW and couldn't face logging back in to Azeroth and knew that I needed a change.
So I reinstalled SWG for a laugh to see what had changed and if I could give it a fresh start; roll a new character and relearn the game from the base up.
Graphically, it's not as good as some games out there atm and, yes, there are still some old bugs which SOE reeeeeally should have sorted by now. But it's still got content that I enjoy.
Maybe I'm just a die-hard Star Wars fanboi who will do anything to keep his mind occupied until SW:TOR. But tbh, I don't care. I'm enjoying my Commando and the Space combat side of things is still as fun as I remember.
Oh, and finally to Lesley. The GU12 gift is Anakins cybernetic arm. NOT Lukes. Sorry to be picky but Luke only lost his hand and even that hasn't yet occurred in the games timeline.
Yeah...I need to get out more!

I played SWG for 5 years since beta. The facts are pretty much written in stone. The NGE really hurt SWG and was broken as the initial launch itself. SOE lied and backstabbed the SWG community at that time. But when Dead Meat took over the guy really turned the game around in terms of development, content, and community. He did a good job fixing what SOE and Lucas Arts broke and never fixed with the launch the NGE. Unfortunately SOE moved him to a new position.
SO SWG is not a bad MMORPG these days. It is just caught between positive and negative forces. The game is in a better state since the NGE was released. But in my book I can never forgive SOE and Lucas Arts for the crap they pulled on the fans. This current producer who is leaving a bad match for SWG fans who still play the game. Good luck.

Yeah, it's a halloween event tied in with the release of an upcoming star wars based horror novel. They've already admitted its a stretch, but its for halloween and s**** and giggles.

Actually, wasn't the book made to tie in to SWG, not SWG tying into an existing novel?

The (now former) Producer of SWG pushed for the zombie update upon hearing about the book.

Odd, I had heard about SWG Zombies before LucasBooks Zombies. I assumed SWG's version was announced first too.
I'd still like to see a retail expansion for SWG. When the NGE hit, they said they'd still make expansions. 3 1/2 years later, no expansions, just card games and zombies. The lack of expansions just makes me think SOE knows they don't have enough customers to justify a physical retail release, or even a download-only release.

I hate it when real world events cross over into games. This Earths history is completly different to what would be on other Planets so leave it out.

SWG has had its problems (still does), but in today's ever increasing console aimed MMOs it has some really complex and deep systems that make it stand out and enjoyable. A lot (not all) of the damage done by the NGE has been mitigated. I recommend anyone that left the game because of the NGE give it a try. At this point the boycott is only hurting yourself, SOE has learned and paid for the failure that was the NGE. The current dev team are very good and responsive to the community. The space game (which was almost completely unaffected by the NGE) is almost alone worth the game.
If you are a role player I don't think there is any other game out there that could compare to the RP possible in SWG, especially with the up coming Chronicles update.
We all wish the NGE never happened, but the fact remains, SWG as it currently stands is a great MMO to play and one worth coming back to. If you do, give me all those old pets you might have in your datapad ;)

Wow, you people are a joke. You downvote a post because you disagree with it? That's incredibly childish.
I say it again: NGE fixed a broken game. It is far superior now.
