Why are the Elyos and Asmodians fighting each other? Shouldn't they be unified by a common enemy?....

Well the answer is easy A planet full Peace loving people does not sale well. If all the game was the same like the first secs of this trailer the game did not work for any one.... :)

But this intro how ever is the more boring thing I seen this year.... the story line is so much the same like others...... Blabla big event change the faith bla bla bla The faith now is in your hands game beginning .... Oh my god event quest a other event quest and damnit time to kill some boars again!

I really don't understand the hype for this game. I've played the beta, and I couldn't bring myself to grind beyond level 5. It's just the same old same old from what I see. Flying combat might be fun, but it can't make or break the game for me. The art style and graphics have already done that, on top of the complete lack of proper storytelling and repetitive boredom that is the modern day experience. I'm glad I canceled the pre-order and switched to Champions Online. I'm tired of playing boring old fantasy auto-attack grind fest MMO's.

Why do people enjoy grinding so much? It's obvious people do, they pay money to subscribe to repetitive grindfest games.

Aaaaaa... no. I've had my fill of arduous motherfucking grind.

To be honest lads, until MMOs can leap the technological hurdle of dynamic worlds, mmos will never be that interesting. It's all just smoke and mirrors. You're better off playing a single player RPG where at least you ARE the hero.

That would be because its a screen capture. It's also on the Aion site, and at the end of the intro video.

And here I thought I was being somewhat original! I actually watched the video in large format high def and screengrabbed that image. I thought it fit quite nicely with the YouTube still before you press play. Seems great minds thinks alike (or something like that)! ;)

Not only vague, but physically nonsensical. Gravity would cause the two halves to coalesce into the most gravitationally-stable form - a sphere.

Further proof that everything that comes out of Japan is convoluted nonsense (see: anime).

Yes, because WoW's rocks floating in the air in Nagrand with waterfalls falling out of nowhere, is physically "sensical".

Searching for realism is a game about dragons, magic and swords of fire is pretty nonsensical in itself, dontcha think?

You're looking for realism in fantasy games? Crazy people everywhere I guess.

Why is this TheNilvarg being voted up? An expectation of physical realism in a fantasy MMO, followed by an ignorant sweeping generalization of an entire culture.

I would hope that this guy is in the minority of Massively's audience.

I think the apple core shape of the planet makes conceptual sense in terms of the lore and it provides some great imagery. But I guess this game will flop because Joe Schmoe can't concentrate on playing his magic-wielding Chanter, protecting his team mates from humanoid cat-like creatures while flying on his immortal set of wings; because he just can't get over the fact that the shape of the world doesn't adhere to the rules of science.

I hope that Aion does well, solely because I don't want NCsoft to lose money, which is solely because I'D LIKE TO SEE GUILD WARS 2 SOMETIME IN THE NEXT DECADE and it would be counterproductive if the company that owns the company that is developing Guild Wars 2 went bankrupt. I couldn't care less about anything NCsoft does. But Arenanet? Arenanet is different. Guild Wars is the only MMO I've ever really liked.

Well, the intro is a bit vague because it is just that.. an Introduction. Intended to get people interested in wanting to know more, not reveal the entire story. If you do some research on the web site and in game you find a few things.

Atreia is (or was technically) a Dyson Sphere. The world is hollow and the people lived on the inside of it. Aion was the literal center of the world, the Pillar of Eternity where he lived kept the two halves of the world together. The fact that it's a Dyson Sphere is never stated directly, but you can see it in the art of the world.

Originally the Elyos and Asmodeans were all just human, living on the entirety of the inside of the sphere. The Drakan were meant to be the guardians and guides of the lesser races, embued by Aion with power to be their protectors. However, they gained power from another source, growing mad and becoming the Balur. Aion created the Empyrean Lords and Daeva to protect the mortal races.

After the Milennium War, the Empyrean Lords were split into two camps, with supporting Daeva and humans, each camp living on the upper and lower halves of the world, around the Pillar of Eternity and protected by the shield. The Lords eventually tried to sue for peace with the Balur lords, but as soon as they meant and the shield was brought down, the leader of the Balur was assassinated. It's a very key point that nobody, then or now knows who assassinated the Balur lord under a flag of truce. It could have been one of either Empyrean Lord factions, or even one of the Balur.

However because of the attack, the Balur attacked, and with the shield down were able to destroy the Pillar of Eternity, cracking the world in half and separating the human factions. Neither group was aware that the other survived, but each blamed the other faction for attacking first and destroying the world. That's the first reason for hostility between the Elyos and Asmodeans.

With the Pillar gone, Atreia no longer had Aion to act as a sun for them. But the world is split, so a nearby (and probably previously unknown) sun shown down on Elyos, allowing them to turn their half of the world into an idealic paradise. Asmodea however is perpetually cloaked in shadow, as the 'back side' of their half faces the sun. So they have a much harder time surviving on their half the world. As such they are fiercely loyal to their own people, but everyone else is just a target for raiding.

In the recent past rifts started opening around Atreia, allowing the Elyos, Asmodean and Balur to find each other again after generations. This has lead to raiding by the Asmodean people on the Elyos, who fight back against them, and raid back in retaliation. This is the second major source of hostility between the races.

Interesting. I'd love for you to point out exactly where I said that World of Warcraft is perfectly realistic. Until you can do that, shut the hell up.

Of course, your name is aion.naamah, so I guess I should expect you to do all you can to defend this utterly mediocre Asian grindfest.

I think he was referring to the fact that you called everything out of Japan nonsensical, when clearly all over the world games can be nonsensical. World of Warcraft is just as nonsensical and as an American made product.

Wait, did I just say games can be nonsensical? Wow... Posters really need to think before they post O_o

TheNilvarg,

Clearly I was not referring to you talking about WoW. What I was referring to is your ludicrous assertion that everything that comes out of Japan (which Aion did not by the way!) is utterly nonsensical, yet Aion makes as much sense, realistically, as any other MMO out there.

In short, your "point" was idiotic and out of place. It made no sense in the context of which it was made and just illustrated how idiotic some people can be when it comes to hating on a game.
