I think you should re-iterate, to your fine readers, some of the changes that will take place at launch (and possibly open beta) and just how different it will be from both the Chinese and Korean versions with the addition of the 1.5 patch. Alot of these folks will make their decisions based on old version information.

... which has nothing to do with game lore.

Well done.

Oh, I'm sorry. For what it's worth, the patch includes more quest/lore content. Does that suffice?

I haven't been terribly interested in Aion, but wow, that concept art is really awesome! From what I've seen of the game though, (which is very little) it didn't really translate.

meh, copying lots of stuff and putting it altogether in a blender... guess not as bad as WoW lore, but still seems in the same style.

wtb mmorpg based on dimensional rips, want to change something that would be unchangable in real life mechanics? make a dimension rip that changes it for you, this includes changes you can make via making a rip so you can change the past completely (this would also allow time travel mechanics within MMORPGs, e.g. force a target two seconds in the past before some burst happened, a type of heal but has its disadvantages of course like reversing any damage done by the target)

not linear lore, but hell, it makes it so you can do anything in a game (because lets face it, if i want to read a indepth story THAT MAKES SENSE ill read LOTR or even harry potter, NOT play a game)... hard to see ANY mmorpg that will shake up the industry within the next few years... mmorpgs should be games, have a story, but a story that doesnt at all follow the same rules as books or movies (won't say TV, since TV already disobeys standard plot rules, e.g. soap operas)

still going to play aion, but just know it will be far from revolutionary (even though the flying mechanics from what I could tell are very well done, this is what WoW should have had considering in WoW flying is just an excuse to ignore community and the vast world just to save time)

Basically, main point:
the next generation of games that are created will be created by actual people who were raised by games will hopefully capitalise on what games do BEST rather on storylines that belong in books. not saying aion isn't/won't be good, but is just following A LOT of the same rules that have been already done time and time again.

thats IMO anyway, I like to think up plots/stories for both games and other media and really dont see why people making games insist of playing by the same rules with two completely different mediums

Agreed.

While lore and storyline is nice and all, we don't play games by in large for the lore or storyline, least of all MMO's. We play them, to have fucking fun.

Lore and story won't carry a MMO in today's industry, nor will gimmicks. (flight/public quests anyone?)

It is unlikely that the older generation of gamers are going to make much headway when it comes to making next generation MMO's. It'll likely come down to younger people, that are new to the industry, and are not bogged down with what worked 10-15+ years ago.

Sorry Paul Barnette, and all you old fossils, it's time to move over.
