Installed WAR for the third time to give it another try...and within one hour realized why I stopped playing. It isn't fun! Too little...too late. Too many new games coming along to waste time and money on WAR. They should seriously consider a free to play model (like DDO).

WAR only works if people are playing. Dead RVR, Dead Scenarios, really Dead PQ's....the developers were arrogant and though there would be thousands of people on all the time 24/7. So we have one big boring dead world....
oh look here comes Champions online, and look over there why ...yes it is, it's Aion! What's that...Blizzard is going to announce a brand new WoW expansion at Blizzcon? Oh add to that STO beginning beta later this year, and SW:TOR maybe even launching early next year...why would anyone want to bother seriously?

Unless Mythic gives us playable Vampire counts, and Mordhiem like yesterday EA will shut this game down because ther just won't be anyone playing period. Insanely can't put it down game play Mythic.....if you can't provide that cut your losses and move on.

It's a shame that WAR seems to be in trouble.

At launch it was probably my favorite MMO ever - and the last couple times I was reminded of that for a few brief moments. But like wolfsterne said - it's all about population and the population distribution. If there are too many people or too few people in an area then you can't take advantage of all the game's features.

It's unfortunate because if you ask me, the devs never made any huge mistakes. Some might disagree with me but I think they did a great job with the game. They just can't control the playerbase, obviously, which is what will kill the game eventually.

As others have said, the issues with WAR seem to be a combination of popultion and complete focus on end game.

From my experiance, the game is solely based on Tier 4. As a result the populations around Tier 1-3 are low to non-existant.
So any new players coming in are not going to stick with the game to get to Tier 4.
Why should they? If the game isnt any fun for the first 3 tiers, they are going to have a hard time retaining players before Tier 4.
really, as it stands at the moment, Tiers 1-3 are simply a massive grind in order to allow play in Tier 4 and there is simply no incentive or desire to hang around and do PVP or PQ's in the lower tiers.

The game isn't bad because of population, its bad because people don't RvR. There isn't enough incentive in the game to RvR. Raid A goes to take a keep. Raid B defends for a while, and eventually is overtaken. Raid B disperses and "somewhere else". Raid A takes the rest of the zone without any good battles.

I am continually disappointed with how people overlook Mythic's Dark Age of Camelot as a simpler, yet much more fun RvR system. I think this is because DAoC is so old that people have either forgotten it, never experienced the end-game RvR, or are too young to have played it. Here's why DAoC was the best RvR game ever:

1. Three realms added the most interesting RvR dynamic possible.
2. The RvR zones were large, but not as spread out as War. The fights were always easy to find.
3. The goal was simple in DAoC: capture the relics and keep them in your realm's possession.

War's RvR system is too obscure. The RvR influence system simply seems so fake that it loses 90% of players' interest. I understand how the system works, but when I am a part of it I feel like I am in some vague and segmented video game. I don't feel a part of a world. That is the reason War sucks. Their RvR system is too cerebral; there's just no guts or instinct.

First let me say that WAR isn't a "bad" by a long shot. Those of you yammer on about how "terrible WAR is" need to do a reality check.
Now IMHO, WAR is the victim of overhyping you guys into thinking it was going to be so good it was going to give wet screaming orgasms and when it didn't you all got mad
Mythic started adding in all the conventions that ruined DAoC like Darkness Falls/Land of the Dead which just drain off people from the "war" for PvE grinding.

Mythic put in a bunch of point grinds for gear (the assorted influence things) rather then put in some meaningful impact on the RvR.

The world design is more suited to a shooter game then an MMO.

Can they "fix" it?...sure, it's nothing really all that major, it needs a "reorganization" and some tweaking. Can't do anything about the world design now.

It needs a proper crafting system with weapons and armor and such with items on par with grind gear. This will create an actual economy and give players more connection with the world. Not having crafting was a mistake.

As far as the factions go (2 or 3) that's not how Warhammer lore works, it's generally every race for themselves in the Warhammer world and there are a lot more groups then 6 battling it out. If they had more of an open world design, that could have more easily represented.

I think it's a little too late too.WAR has been such a waste of time andmoney for the players that I don`t want to lose more time, money and hope on this game anymore.

There are so many new games coming and I would prefer waiting patiently for those than getting more frustration from Mythic.

I've been saying for months that WAR is on death's door.
Do you believe me yet?

WAR's engine is total garbage, and the delay (Mythic time) for abilities and spells is really a game breaker and the reason why most people left. The RvR failure and heavy reliance on scenarios doesn't help either.

Again, the largest problem WAR has isn't as easy as a simple patch, it's an entire game engine and net code overhaul.

I agree with DarkStryke. Both the game engine and net code are really total garbage. I've played a lot of games. And none of them had so many performance and scalability issues. For the kind of graphics this game delivers it needs way too much resources. I mean it's not as if there weren't any good game engines out there? Aion, for example, uses the CryEngine. And it delivers. Aion features pretty nice graphics with moderate resource requirements.
Sure, it's not all about graphics. But hitching, stuttering, lags, de-synced animations and horribly low FPS in crowded areas is a game breaker, no matter what. One might like Aion or not. But from a technical point of view this game shows what is possible. In the beta there were huge amounts of players running around. And guess what? No lags and no stuttering.

This was my problem too and I'm not sure I mean from a technical standpoint, but more from a game play standpoint. The combat and movement just seemed sluggish to me, not engaging. I never liked the core combat pace of this game and that ended it all for me early.

I think WAR had many good ideas, but it disapointed me in many ways
i know it might sound stupid but i was kinda suprised on how bad it looked to be that new, it had no feel like most other mmos it also anoyed me that there where only 2 factions.

It has a lot of cool features and i think it could be saved if the mmo market wasnt going to get overrun by all these new and exiting mmos

I say shut it down the game is a mess and a disgrace to Warhammer, like everyother Warhammer game before it. They've made their money back already so get the company working full force on something good.

Its Mythic. They made what they could. So much of WAR is decedent (mistakes and blunders) from DAoC and they sprinkled in some WoW.
To "get them to work" on something else really is just asking for more of the same...just SOE cranks out the "kill 10 rat" level grinders.

lol people are acting as if this is the Ninjabread Man of MMOs.

I personally partly blame the players. They make the game and if they let themselves fall to overhype, and easy judgement then of course you'll think the game fails.

I never understand MMO players.. People who play other games can forgive certain flaws, but if MMOs aren't perfect, you have people yelling and screaming on the forums how much the game fails in every aspect... It's really weird to be honest.

I played this game and loved it, there are flaws yes, but I personally feel the RvR flaws in this game don't even come close to the PvP flaws in games like WoW or LotRO.

No its the fact that its been out a year and so many things have not been fixed. I mean for godsake i get stuck on like every item in the game still!! Add that to the fact that they have buried thier heads in the sand and keep releasing PVE content instead or working on PVP items in a PVP game. People are just frustrated with it and are leaving. And people leaving is a problem since you have no one to fight or just get overwhelemed if you are the side losing players. I liked the game when it came out but now with all these problems and the impilmented token grind for gear that is not as good as the PVE gear, im tired of it and looking for something else. They have failed in the execution of the game and are reaping what they deserve.

I am actually a new player to WAR. I started playing due to the beta client for Mac.

I really enjoy WAR thus far and am having quite a lot of fun. Two of my RL friends decided to give it a try as well and they also are enjoying it enough to cancel their WoW accounts (as have I).

Yes, it has flaws -- some that are quite frustrating, such as the interaction lag (button pressing or even moving something around in your bags), but if WoW has conditioned me to anything, it's to be patient and give the developer a legitimate opportunity to fix things. They don't happen over-night.
