This is why I used to love MUDs - the amount of creator involvement and worldwide events were fantastic and left you feeling like you were part of the world. I mean, I love seasonal events but I can put up with a hell of a lot if you have the kind of immersion and involvement that it sounds like the game had.

Not sure I could have put up with these specific mechanics, but MMOs (especially MMORPGs) need to start developing THIS aspect as well as the others that they're clearly already focused on.
