I play EQ2, which, IMO, has about the most house-items / furniture / miscellaneous junk for you to oogle .. of any MMO. I keep every piece of furniture I come across, and its made my house into an odd sort of museum showcasing the game's 5-year history, and chronicling my progression through the various expansions. I rarely seek things out on the broker, but from time to time I have dropped 20 or so platinum pieces for various goodies. I'd say my weakness is light sources and torches. If it makes some kind of cool blue, red, or green flame that makes my walls and stuff look cool ... I'm all about it.

The Spartan here. I don't even bother with player housing for the storage options because I don't carry anything I don't feel is of vital importance. The bags are normally empty when rolling out for the day and the bank only holds that which I am too low a level to use. I never had the urge to collect virtual nick knacks since, well, what's the point? I can't sit on that couch or use that table for anything, so there's no point in wasting fun time getting them.

I'm one of those strange folks who finds collecting and hording to be useless endeavors.

In fact, if I have an obsession it is keeping my bags and bank as pristine and empty as possible. I only keep necessities around.

Collector to the core, I love the odds and ends that I find in game - but only keep those very specific bits that go along with whatever happens to be my fancy at the time.

Total pack rat here, both in game and in life. I'm constantly picking up things because I think they're neat, use them a short time, then get distracted by the next shiny. I'm also something of a miser when it comes to consumables which makes it worse. I'm the sort who will grab anything grabable because I might need it later, then holds onto to things because I might need it MORE later. So I wind up with bags of stuff I either shouldn't have bothered to get in the first place, or should have used long ago when it was useful, but I've now gone past when it could be useful. I also hold onto a lot of stuff as trophies. Often with the intention of setting up displays with them. Something I rarely every get around to doing, because I'm out gathering more stuff.

I have to try so hard to not keep junk I know I won't be needing.

Playing Warhammer Online, I keep all of my RvR, Public Quest, and Consignment Armor sets in my bank just because I love the art on them so much. I also save some of the cooler looking weapons and some useless quest rewards.

I started playing MMO's back in the day of Asherons Call. Now that game was one big giant scavenger hunt. You had housing for the sole purpose of displaying all the different loot, trophies and assorted junk and weapons you had collected over time.

AC was the one single game I really enjoyed housing in as simple as it was.

I loved the housing in EQ2, spent alot of time just collecting and decorating. Just started playing Runes of Magic and I'm looking forward to trying the whole planting thing they have (growing potted plants in the house that give resources).

Oddly, my collector impulse seems completely dependent on whether a game has advanced player housing or not.

In a game like EverQuest 2, which not only makes customizable housing available, but encourages you to display your personal mementos and trophies, I find I become quite the archivist of my own adventures,

In games which offer far more limited housing (LotRO), or no housing at all, my urge to find and keep character momentos evaporates. What's the point, if all the keepsakes do is take up space on my character, or in my bank?

So, it's all about the housing options for me ...

I'll keep something if I'm not sure what it is and think it might have value in the auction house or later in the game. Otherwise, I sell or destroy it. I prefer to keep my bags organized and as empty as possible. I think I would bother with decorating my in-game house if it weren't instanced. (Do any MMOs have a "housing district" where someone can happen upon your house and look in the window, etc.?) I don't really use player housing for anything.

I'm curious, does your in-game house reflect your real-life home? my in-game home is pretty barren and my real house is pretty bare too. I don't like to accrue any "junk" in real life. I'm a big fan of giving or throwing away things I don't really need. Packrats make me cringe.
