Actually, I'd like to thank Massively for reporting about it. Horrors like that need to be nipped in the bud the second they rise up, so the faster its announced, the sooner we can drive there with giant scissors (cause running with them is totally dangerous) and cut it to pieces.

Which I like to believe we did.

And the guy shouldn't get his degree if he thinks Twilight would make a good game, just an opinion...

Great follow up, Colin :) What a relief...

I expect the next thing we hear on the matter is this guy getting sued because he doesn't own the rights.

Considering the lack of fact checking in the initial posting, I wouldn't exactly call this a great follow-up.

The initial source was a lame-o fan site and the link to the "MMO" site showed very quickly that this was some amateur project. When the game designers are simply called Brandon and Steve it has to set off a few flags.

Wow.. it's absolutely incredible how much this story got reported when it was all just some guy going to that scam of a school with a basement project. He doesn't even have the rights to it... I wonder if he's gotten past programming the title screen.

You kidding? I bet the most he has is a poorly done collage for how much he loves the series, and added in a quicky box with "Start Game" on it, and calling it the pre-loader.

I love how it's a "he", when it's a series catered toward girls. Then again how many high school/college girls do you see programming. So I guess balance is preserved.

Does this kid even have any rights to the IP? Or did Massively just jump the gun on reporting this rumo... er... news? Seems the latter.

All the hating kind of sucks.

The books made a ton of dough, the movie made more and lots of folks like it. Kind of seems like a good idea to bring MMOs to a market that doesn't currently have them on their radar.

Not my cup of tea but I think I've had enough of the OMG THAT STUFF SUCKS BECAUSE I LIKE TO SHOOT GUNS AND DRINK BEER WITH MY BUDDIES AND VAMPIRE LOVE STORIES ARE OF NO INTEREST TO ME

Okay, okay we get it. You're big and tough. Geez.

The books are horrible. That's reason enough to hate it. I don't see anyone here saying that they don't like it because of the reasons you listed?

I disagree, I enjoyed the books. As did tons of other people. It was a romance though, so not many guys enjoy it.

Well, i must say that such bashing of the Twlight IP is really unnecessary. I never read the books but Colin's attitude is a bit childish.
There's people that like the Twilight IP and i believe that some would enjoy playing an MMO.
That coupled with is article touting Harry Potter makes it a bit obvious that someone is a Harry Potter fanboy and Twilight hater... :)

1.) Twilight movie made $35 million on its opening day.
2.) The DVD sold 3 million copies its first day.
3.) The first book is still ranked #21 on Amazon.com, as well as the other 3 books taking spots on the top 25. Harry Potter has 1 and is ranked below Twilight.

My point is, it's obviously popular. An MMO would bring people who probably don't play MMOs into the world of online gaming. I don't see what the big deal is.

And since when do you have to play every single MMO that comes out? You guys have no reason to complain. Are you going to play it? No. Are you buddies going to play it? Probably not. So, you won't have to hear anyone talking about it, see anyone play it, it won't steal gamers from other, "hardcore" MMOs... Why the hell are you griping?!

I haven't got a single clue about any of this Twilight stuff beyond what I just skimmed on Google, but I have to say that the amount of needless vitriol and ill-feeling directed at the guy is frankly un-called for.

A few of the comments here express exactly what I feel. When Harry Potter was initially launching it's way into international acclaim, a "movement" very similar to the size and level of hate as the what Twilight seems to be experiencing now, had quite a bit of traction. For some, the dislike of the concept/execution of Twilight is justified. But for most, it seems that the hate of the IP and the people who enjoy it is based purely on the fact that its popular/is a love story/is loved largely by a younger crowd. Too many have taken an elitist view of intellectual superiority over those that don't immediately treat the author, the books/movie, or its supporters with contempt.

For those that enjoy Ms. Meyers' writing(The Host was quite enjoyable), more power to you.

I'm a guy, and I like the vampire genre. Buffy/Angel were incredible, and True Blood is very promising. I even enjoy romance in certain contexts. That said, I read Twilight on the urging of my superfan niece and found that it was hands down the worst book I've ever read. Literally, 1/4 of the sentences were some hyperbolic statement about how hot this Edward vampire was, or how his breath smelled great (I'm not kidding), or how she couldn't breathe because he looked like Adonis. The entire premise of the book was that if a guy is hot enough, you should do anything and take any risk to get physical with him. There was almost no actual plot. I didn't think it was possible, but this book actually decreased my respect for the female gender, which is pretty sad. This is one case where internet backlash is entirely well-founded. Twilight is true adolescent female porn.
