I don't like the fact that you are stuck in first person in MO and i dont like the fact that you are "bad" if you pvp and become a villain.

One issue I see with this game is this:
MMORPG's are "RPG's" hence vanity games which is why they are mostly made with 3rd person. RPGers like to oogle themselves and view around their characters.

Shooter players prefer FP and not RPG systems.

I guess my point is this - why are they sticking exclusively with FPS views rather then enabling first AND third?

It's seems like a minor thing but IMHO, it is going to make a huge impact on who it appeals to. FPS players traditionally do not play fantasy games nor RPGs and more importantly - monthly subs.

MMO players are not big fans of FPS.

It's going to be interesting to see how this game is received.

Because they are trying for immersion and first person view makes the most sense. This is a full loot game so you won't be ogling your epics for long.

Because if you have an optional third person view, nobody will use first person view, because third person makes it easier to keep track of your surroundings. Nobody can sneak up behind you, etc.

All RPers I know prefer to play in first-person because it is more immersing.

RPG doesn't make it vanity, the "G" makes it vanity...

It's because the CEO (Henrik) likes to go round the ba-- prefers his backstabbing to go unnoticed ^^

Seriously, if you're killed from behind in a FPV game that foregoes on tags, there'll be no way to know who killed you. That's the main reason, Starvault prefers their players to be gankers instead of PVP on an even footing.

I'm in Beta Block A and have not been able to log in ONCE. So far the whole thing is looking like a scam to me. Servers always down. No direct communication from the developers on ANYTHING about the status of the game. Unless you're the ultimate masochist, I would steer clear of MO for now.

Yeah I understand the reasons, I just have my doubts about it working out. I can easily see in the near future, them breaking down and putting in a 3rd person view cause it ain't gonna draw the FPS crowd and its gonna cause the MMO crowd to be standoffish.

My ass. I'm in Beta Block A and haven't even been able to log into the game yet. I just look at dong on the character creation screen for hours at a time.

I know this has been complained about immensely, but this "beta" has been a joke so far.

Their hasnt been a cap in days, everyone can log in during EU work hours for SV, the servers are very stable and up then.

This is a very early beta for a EU deved game, if you cant handle it wait till servers are more stable.

People here are forgetting this is a BETA. Jesus christ, try to atleast remember that, server crashes, server caps are all part of testing, testing the surver stability.

Im in Beta block A and i've managed to have atleast around 6 hours play time, and I have to say the game is visually stunning, as is everything else.

Of course there are bugs, of course the server is down sometimes and the server is capped sometimes, bud i'd rather it be a pain in the arse now than at release.

Also to the game on about third person being better for looking at your surroundings, Starvault made it first person so it was more immersive and realistic, if you want to play a rogue in Mortal Online, you have to USE the first person view to your advantage, someone isn't going to see you behind them are they?

Far too many people have been dumbed down by WoW and other games that tend to those that don't like having consequences for their actions.

Beta isn't a chance to play the game for free, its a chance to help iron out bugs so when the game is released, its not a bag of crap.

Get real.

I've been in two Alphas for over 8 months now and it wasn't until the Beta was around the corner when the servers would go OFFline more than 50% of the time in order for the network code to get streamlined and the servers gradually replaced for the expected rush of Closed Beta.

The main problem Starvault is running into is that they heavily depend upon their Unreal Engine license, more precisely the MMO networking code Epic China has been supposed to deliver for UE3. To the best of my knowledge (feel free to prove me wrong) this is the first MMO license that is using that code, so the poor saps who bought into this mortal online Beta scam are not only testing the game, but also the Unreal Engine MMO Networking code. Better still, they paid for that privilige :D
