I'm happy over this. All the bad vampire, werewolf rp'ers in wow will have somewhere to go other than our RP realms.

Sadly snow, I'm sure even those vampire and werewolf rp'ers will not go near this game. Seriously, vampires don't sparkle...

Gawd dangit. My sister's gonna be on the computer all frakking day now playing a stupid MMO based off of a stupid franchise.

I read the first one and whoop-de-freakin'-doo, I hated it.

How on earth are they planing on making this profitable? oO

Free to play?

Or are they some how going to link this to a face book app to draw in the hordes of screaming 13 year olds?

The fan base doesn't immediately seem to lend it's self to supporting an mmo.

LOL. Guess they will be adding in the /wrists emote for this one. Can't believe they are making this into an MMO, and no Bufffy MMO ?

Oh. Dear. God. makeitstop. I'm going to have to find a new hobby here pretty soon, being an MMO nerd is getting to be way too popular for my tastes.

I suppose this makes it official.

MMORPGs are now the "fad investment of choice" for people who think they can get a piece of the World of WarCraft wealth just by putting out their own game.

They don't understand that -- love it or hate it -- WoW was a cultural phenomenon. It succeeded the way it did for a bunch of reasons beyond the predictable.

You can't force that lightning to strike twice.

Ah well, once all these "cash in" MMORPGs go under, and the investors lose their money (instead of making huge profits) the fad will finally go away.

The downside is, of course, that after the crash, it will be harder for even _good_ MMORPG projects to find dedicated backers.

So it goes ...

I just told trade chat. We decided unanimously that this is a terrible idea.

There's a perfectly good IP out there for vamps, werewolves and humans, which a few have already commented on: White Wolf's World of Darkness. It has years of development and a solid gaming system to boot. I'm not holding my breath, but that's an MMO I'd love to see. Not Twilight, which is no more than a crappy teen-angst book in a crappy series.

But it's not designed for you, it's designed for the people who liked twilight. The two properties appeal for totally different reasons and to different markets, and Twilight probably would kick the ass of WoD based on subs, which is what the suits look at.

You really think so?

The DVD seemed to be released barely a couple weeks after the film. I know investors/publishers/horrible author are hoping this will turn into another Harry Potter, but hopes don't equate outcome, and I've yet to see any indication that this un-intellectual property is going to deliver on all the expectations.

Time will tell, I suppose.

You have got to be kidding me. So people want to make that piece of sh*t series into an mmo...but NOT make a Harry Potter one!?!

If I ever find out who the a**hole is that is sitting on the rights to turn HP into an mmo then I will punch them in the face. (Rowling, of course, excluded)

I have two links here that pretty much sum up everything you need to know as to why this is a horrible idea.

Well, mainly this first one: http://www.cracked.com/blog/my-book-proposal-for-the-next-bestselling-piece-of-shit/

And this one is just plain funny: http://www.cracked.com/video_17567_say-vampire-scene-from-twilight-extended-cut.html

Note: Not much stuff on Cracked is work safe, so be warned.

I'm not opposed to a Harry Potter MMO. It has potential, as it's mainly the world itself that's interesting, and not so much the characters in it.

That being said, the best video game based on HP would be one based around the Bully model. While that was only a so-so game, the idea of an open-world school would fit very neatly into the structure of the books. I've never played any of the video game adaptations, but apparently they're mostly focused on controlling the main characters from the books. Give me a game where I'm some generic student. I won't be offended, really. In fact I'll revel in the chance to create my own character, rather than just tracking the same path that I did when I read the books/watched the movies.
