DCUO seems to be doing it best.
Champions second.
Global Agenda okay.
Aion's flight should barely even count, so many problems with it.

I can think of seven different types of flying powers to choose from in Champions. That is quite impressive. I don't think any other game has that many.

Why even include AIons flight model? The only thing they have right about Aions flight is the timer, nothing should be perma flight, sci-fi included.

Aion however does flight a huge injustice by restricting it in every way imaginable, The game is rife with "you cant fly here" "flying is unavailable" walls of force in the sky, across boundries "the orange glow of flight failure" there are tiny areas where flight is permitted, really disgusting to have a game tout flight and actually have no flight worth mentioning. I really doubt the flight between the realms for fighting in the abyss will do it for anyone. The Aion folks need to remove the restrictions or Aion will be just another oddity for a few months.

Aion wont do well once the majority of folks see the severe restrictions put on flight in Aion, hopefully they wont be getting alot of money before folks figure that out.

I was highly disappointed in Aion's use of flight more so because it was touted as something so much more then it actually was.

Here is hoping someone will get it right eventually.

I still don't understand why Global Agenda is being called a "MMO". By the same standards, Diablo 2 could be called a MMO.

Pulled from GA's forum:

Global Agenda's unique fusion of shooter-based action, role-playing mechanics, and grand territorial strategy gameplay can make the game difficult to easily pigeonhole into a "classic" game genre. At Hi-Rez Studios, our number one objective is to bring a fresh, insanely fun game to market -- not necessarily to fit neatly into an existing category.

That said, however, the game has a broad set of features that MMO players have grown accustomed to and that are traditionally considered when discussing whether a game is a "true MMO."

These features include:

* Player vs Environment missions with boss fights
* Player vs Player missions with different objective types
* A large-scale, persistent territory control framework and Campaign
* Multiple character classes and subclasses
* Character leveling and progression
* Skill trees
* Social Hubs
* Achievements
* Loot with various qualities
* Blueprints and crafting
* Economy and auction system
* Gear upgrades
* Alliances and Agencies (our version of "guilds").
* Grouping systems (for easily teaming with other players for missiosn)
* Character customization and dyes
* Flair and seasonal items
* Alliance/Agency/Group/Side/Team text chat
* Integrated Voice Chat
* Thirty+ different major weapons/devices for each class
* Scores of character emotes
* A "Raid" system that is part of the campaign system that allows coordinated teams of up to 60 persons (working inside up to 6 different strike teams) to simultaneously raid the enemy, working toward a common raid objective.
* Single server-shard per major geographic region -- meaning you can communicate with and compete with/against tens of thousands of other players.

So, based on these criteria, Global Agenda is certainly more of an MMO than Diablo 2.

Aion is still in beta and access is very limited. Flight could play a much bigger role later on in the game. It would be silly for them to have tons of flight early on because you're so restricted in how much flight time you have when you first acquire your wings. Not to mention they're still changing things; even if you've played the Chinese retail version, you still haven't played the version that will be release in North America and Europe.

dont know why gliding wasn't mentioned for aion, when you jump off or even are going down a slope, hit space bar after you apex your jump, now you're gliding faster then walking without much effort/waste of time. Really helpful when being chased by a mob of elyos/asmodian/monsters.

Yet they all look like crap and some are in NDA so can't talk about the reasons. DC Universe is made by SOE which instantly makes it a no buy, not that I like the whole ghey Super Hero thing anyways cause I ain't 5 anymore.

Yet here you are acting like a 5 year old, thinking anyone else who likes superhero stuff is "ghey". Yeah I guess Stan Lee's X-men and Wolverine movies that made millions of dollars are "ghey" too? Idiot.

I find it rediculous commenting about not being 5 and hating super heroes while still playing wow. That game is intended for little kids more then almost any game on the market in the mmo world lol. Also insulting SOE while you still play a game like WOW controled by Blizzard who keeps making decisions based on "how much money will this make us" and "how can we trick people into thinking we are adding somthing new with little effort" is a rediculous ploy. IMO ever since they created wow Blizzard has become a worse designer then SOE. Not to mention that Blizzard hired SOE rejects to do Wow's expansions. Overall I think DC and champions will do well, they are a new look at the MMO buisness and give it people more choice.

I agree with Aions opinion being that I have been in the beta for it a few weekends now. Its flight is more of a gimic and so far has shown little use past Essence collection. Though PvP does seem to call more use for it all Ive seen is the arena pvp nothing more.

Yeh but blizzard have never screwed me over or made a bad game like SOE. When a company lies to me and makes massive changes and just says "oh well we'll get new subs" I don#t trust them ever again and I wont buy any of their games again.

They ruined and then left Planetside to die

They ruined Everquest with Luclin

They made a mess out of Everquest 2

All the rest of their games suck.

If you havent PvPed in Aion or at least reached the later PvE zones where flying isnt restricted, then please dont comment ok?

Having played on the Korean servers i can say that the flight in this game is more then a gimic or fluff. In PvP it adds more strategy and fun then any of those other MMOs with flight.

I dont see the other devs of the other 3 MMOs bragging much about how their flight system will add a new element to PvP or any fight for that matter?

Flight - oh come it's been done a million times. I want to see some new vertical travel forms

MXO's super jump was a huge amount of fun in its day, as was the equivalent ability in COH/COV...or what about Prototype's glide...

Something original instead of rocket power, super powers or wings would be good to see.

Franky- Infact in Champions you can fly while PvPing and while it might not be as big as Aion there is stratagy with it, you can fly real high and shoot but if a ground person throws something at you and knocks you out of flight you have a long way down and other things incorporated with flight.

Bod- I know what you mean but actually Champions again have Fire flight, Earth Flight, there are actually a lot, most vertical flight is prolly from items though. Along with regular flight powers there will be items that grant you travel powers, like a magic carpet (weird I know but hey "I want to see some new vertical travel forms ") They also have like disc's you can ride on (Like Static Shock?)

Champions Online is made by the same people that made CoX. So there are many different travel powers. Just search "travel powers" in it's Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champions_Online).

I think you both misunderstood, or maybe I was ambiguous. I wasn't looking for a description of travel powers in CoX (which I've played), or a further discussion on flight. Instead I was suggesting that every form of flight has been covered and it would be good to see an interesting article on alternatives.
