Frogster has dropped some information about the next update for Runes of Magic. The best part about the news? You won't even have to wait a whole week until the patch is released. The update is titled Secret of the Goblin Mine and is focused around a new solo adventure mini-game called -- you guessed it -- the Goblin Mine. Inside there are three tasks to complete with a time limit of 30 minutes. Players will be dressed up as goblins for the duration of the mini-game. The area will only be accessible once a day (and dying will forfeit the chance to beat it) but the victorious should be well-rewarded:
Those who succeed, receive rare armor recipes and handcrafted objects from the treasure chests at the end of the dungeon. There are also two new titles to reward particularly diligent Goblin hunters, one of which being 'Goblin Hero.'
The update will also bring an epic weapon quest series and the plant cultivating system we first heard of a few months ago. There's a preview video for the Goblin Mine available on the RoM official site, to whet your appetite before the patch goes live on the 28th of July.

ROM is doing one hell of a job on content updates. They seem to just fly in the face of the old F2P must suck belief. Its not the greatest, would I pay 15 a month for it, no. But at this time I do not pay any monthly subscription and still manage to play several online games in order to get my fix. I enjoy this and have yet to drop any cash in any micro store as of this moment.
If we had to put it to a vote on the F2P model vs subscription model vs hybrid model, I would have to cast my vote on the hybrid. I think DDO has found a nice balance. Full access plus a monthly points bonus for paying customers to spend in their store makes the subscription more appealing, but not required to play for more then just 14 days. I have enjoyed DDO more now that it is costing me nothing yet then I did a launch when I felt rushed to get a feel in 2 weeks and make a decision. When I look at my desktop and see icons for non-subscription games I do not feel the overwhelming urge to play them as I use to because I paid 15 a month for them. Now I can play at my own pace and actually enjoy the experience, and if I like pay up the fee.
As for the voting on the model, I think we are votingevery time we decide to either open our wallet or not. Lets face it, companies here the ring of the cash register more clearly then the sound of forums chat.
