The first issue of a brand new comic based on Free Realms will be released next week, on the 29th of July. The series comes from a collaboration between WildStorm and SOE, with J.S. Lewis (best known for his Grey Griffins series of children's books) writing the story. MMORPG is also reporting that those who pick up the first issue will be eligible to receive an in-game item, the "Spider Bite Sword". Each comic in the series should continue in this manner, offering a new in-game item for the 12 issues that are planned.
A handful of pages from the first issue can be previewed right now, along with a short snippet of the plot:
The story begins when a young boy is abducted and dragged into a darkened forest teeming with twisted monsters. It's up to a relic hunter and a pixie to save him, but their mission is cut short when a horde of troll-like creatures captures them!
Maybe we're just wusses, but that sounds kind of scary.

You and me both, Ping. This is, perhaps, the first example of pixies looking cool that I have ever seen!
Plus spider bite sword.

There's some confusion whether you get an in-game item from this issue or just the series in its entirety, but I've ordered the first one anyway - the art is much better than I expected (I feared something Skottie Young-ish) so giving it a chance.

I don't care.
While the game looks neat and entertaining, there is no escaping the fact that it comes from Sony. And I do not trust ANYTHING from Sony on or in contact with my computers. They hacked (and ruined) millions of computers by their placing rootkit infections on music CDs a few years ago. Only God knows what malware an actual program from Sony will inject into my computer, and what evils it will try to do.

Strangely enough, after I saw the above picture, I had fallen asleep for a little while, and I dreamed about it. That gnarly evil looking twisted root bunch unfurled and let me by, and I was walking down this secret path that was behind it. The whole area was gloomy and purple looking. But a cat jumped on me and woke me up, I didn't get to see what was down the path!
And to the previous poster, you don't even trust Comic Books from Sony? That's some serious paranoia.
