Ahead of Closed Beta Test 4, which starts later today, NCsoft have revealed a new-look website for Aion: The Tower of Eternity which includes its own wiki and the electronic equivalent of a manual, explaining how to play the game. The site itself has been given an overhaul and now seems identical regardless of whether you prefer the US version or the European one. There are also feeds to Aion's Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as the collective Twitter feeds of the devs and regional CM's. All four are well worth following but more so if you've not yet pre-ordered the game or got yourself a beta key as they normally give quite a few away just before each new beta test event.
However, the big new addition to the site is the wiki. It's an excellent resource to anyone looking to figure out how the game works.and there's an especially detailed page explaining character creation, on top of this there are pages exploring the lore and the zones which have been made available to Elyos and Asmodian players. Indeed the addition of this new wiki is perfectly timed and means players new and slightly more experienced are going to be able to understand how the game works that much more easily. The wiki is still in beta, but that said, it's a wealth of official information about the game which is sure to be invaluable to players who are rolling a toon for the first time or finally exploring how the other faction lives. So, don't forget to check it out before today's fun and games begin at noon PST/8pm CET.

Can't wait to get home tonight and try out the Abyss.
That'll make it or break it for me in Aion. So far the experience has been good, but way too much "same-ness" to merit a purchase.
I've heard good things about the PvP from those playing the Asian version. If the PvP lives up to the hype, I'll have my new vice.

Here's hoping I enjoy this time more than last time, and here's hoping I actually get a character past level 10.

I'm not a big fan of this long drawn-out beta/demo. They should have had maybe a weekend or two of open beta just prior to launch, after those first two weekends my interest has slipped. I'm just not interested in leveling up a char only to see it get wiped.
I mean 2-3 months of beta, every other weekend, really? Whenever I have been in extended beta's like this it inevitably takes away from some of the newness of retail. I've stopped playing after the 2nd weekend.

I agree that leveling a character only to have it wiped sucks. My girlfriend and I decided on playing Asmodian when the game goes live, so we're playing Elyos during these beta tests. We don't care if those get wiped and we won't have to repeat those same quests again either.

Yeah but they are still putting in the rest of the content that is being localized. The tutorial/introduction, voice overs, extended cut scenes, etc are not in yet.

Too many people judge games based on Beta...that is why you aren't allowed to discuss the game while its in beta....its in BETA people. It's not finished. If someone decides not to play the game based on the closed beta...then that's sad for them...but good for us since there will be less people to clog up the servers on the first day. CYa in game.

But Aion IS finished. The North American 'beta' is for localization purposes, the game has been live in Korea for quite a while. There will certainly be content additions as content is localized and made available, but the fundamental gameplay of Aion is NOT in beta -- it's done. If someone doesn't like the game as it stands now, they're not going to like the game. Saying "it's beta" doesn't really apply here.

LOL, yeah, the game is in beta? Its been out in Korea since November, no, its not a beta. This is a marketing ploy to generate hype, don't kid yourself.

Have you ever played any Asian games, especially any RPG's? They're often a mess of grammatical errors and typos, included among various new bugs introduced during the localization process. While I don't doubt NCsoft is going to milk the hype as much as they can, this beta is certainly not just a "marketing ploy".
They've fully admitted it is a localization and "westernization" beta, so there is no "ploy" to pretend it's a full-fledged beta test.
I totally appreciate NCsoft taking the time and resources to beta test the localization, as I can't recall many Asian companies doing so.
Having been in CB2 and 3 so far, beta testers have already found plenty of bugs, errors, typos, broken quests, etc., many of which I'm sure will be fixed for retail.
This process not only adds fun and entertainment for the player-base as we await the retail release, it also adds polish to the localized game, which everyone can and should appreciate.
You might not like the game for whatever reason, but don't knock a company for taking measures to polish a game before release. Too often do we receive games that lack polish, and the result is usually quite disappointing (Hellgate, anyone?).
(sorry for the wall o' text!)

Korea and China are about to be playing version 1.5. Our beta version is what they played in their beta. So it's not up to date by any means.

Thanks to GameGuard, I'm in midst of cancelling my pre-order for it.
I like my MMOs without malware, thanks.

True, the latest update of GameGuard became even more invasive. In the case you have Kaspersky or Avast antivirus, it tries to shut them down. I guess without a success, because it leaves your system half-frozen with all programs not responding. This will cause you a data loss, in the case you have been working on something. Hard reset is the only option as GameGuard blocks even Task manager.
Asian players might be OK with such drastic manipulation of their systems, but I seriously doubt western people are going to tolerate that.

I've pre-ordered the collectors edition and spent 20 minutes trying to get Symantec Endpoint working with it - failed. Why Gameguard needs to tamper with my anti-virus package is beyond me. I killed the SEP services anyway, just to see what the game is like. Played for about 10 hours. To be honest - meh. You get to fly - big deal. Just like riding a flying mount in WoW. The air 'combat' I have had so far is me standing in mid air wacking something else standing in mid air.
Combat is far slower, graphics are OK without having that WOW (not the game) factor of LOTRO or AOC. Looks slightly more refined WoW or WAR graphics, but not by much. Ingame mechanics are very simplistic and cater to the Ritalin addicted 12 year old button mashers.....just a little slower.
Not sure whether I will keep my pre-order. Its just a little to same-same for me. I was expecting more given all the hype and attention Massively has given it. Will keep playing for a few more hours but unless something extraordinary pops out in the next 10 hours I think I'll pass.
