It's been a long time coming, but Cryptic has put out a video through Gamespy detailing character creation with glorious in-game footage of the actual process. If you've been following information on Champions Online for some time now, you probably won't learn anything new in terms of what Bill Roper talks about during the video. However, videos are worth more words than anything else, so we doubt that will bother anyone too much.
Soon -- very soon actually -- the open beta will arrive and everyone will get a crack at superhero design in Champions Online. We can't wait to see what kind of craziness people come up with, especially when components are in place to make what appears to be robot-clown-demons and other disturbing concoctions.
Check out the full video after the break.

...and never actually get into the game.

THIS is why I canceled my Aion preorder and moved it to Champions Online! Come on September!

My biggest complaint about the character customization, is that they need more face options. If you look at the Rate My Champion characters, almost all the characters without helmet/masks on look the same (especially the female characters).

That's because CO allows facial expressions on player characters, so everyone is gonna have the same "default" face. CoH only had set images for faces. I can get over face thing, but I seriously hope that you can get noticeably different body sizes through tweaking. The only sizes I've seen so far only seemed to range from jacked to Chuck Norris.

Sorry not canceling my Aion pre-order for this. I've enjoyed CoH/CoX, and I need a break from superhero-ing. I may re-apply when DC Online hits the universe.

APB's character customization looks way better than this.

True, but at the same time it is limited to that world. Champions supports some pretty wildly different looks. Like you're not going to created a winged demon or cyborg robot in APB.
That said, for creating a city criminal/gang person, APB is sooo awesome.

I disagree. I think that APB's character creator could be used to make a superhero in a superhero game and I think it would be far superior to what Cryptic has done.

It should be pointed out that the character creation as wonderful as it is, is only the part of the game. As I found with CoX, the CC is great...but the gameplay itself can be very lacking...if not frustrating. CO (and similar MMO's) should rememeber not only do we want lool like heroes, we want to feel like a heroes as well.
Note to CCon99:
It's has been argued on the CO forums that RMC is not a true depiction of your character. And appears to be focused on costumes rather than style, perhaps for bandwidth purposes. Note the blue nails on many of the characters for example...blue is the default color of the creater and likely not of the toon's actual nails. For more accuracy of character creation potential can be found in their screen shots and videos.

What Utakata said. Please work on more variety of gameplay. I also want solid non-combat play as well. I've finally given up on CoH providing anything interesting. They have disappointed me too often in the past to think they can innovate beyond rehashed animations, powers and missions. I hope Cryptic has not just learned from the other game but actually implement the changes. One example, when roaming the streets the bank is actually being robbed. Sounds like a good start and I hope there are many more to come.

Too much footage of a guy talking.

We'll see. While I've heard good things about Champions (particularly how they handled the energy system), letting Bill Roper run things and the RMT rumors still leave me wary.

Seriously. Selling the option to name my character as the final peak of personalization perfection?
If that is indeed the case, the CO character creation might just turn out to be lead, not gold...
