It's been a long while coming, but Funcom has finally announced their first re-evaluation campaign for Age of Conan. Anyone who possesses a previously active account can -- as of today, July 8th -- reactivate and play for two full weeks entirely for free. In the last year, the game has seen a literal avalanche of updates and improvements. So if you haven't been back in Hyboria since launch last year, you're in for quite a few big surprises.
The timing of the expansion announcement and this two free week return are obviously not coincidental. You can be sure that Funcom has been planning this quite carefully to get people buzzing about their game again, and kudos to them for pulling it off nicely. Of course, we've yet to learn what's coming in the expansion but something tells us it'll be doing everything it can to impress both previous and current players.

It should run fine under XP if you are updated well in patches and drivers. If this is your first time playing the free trial has been suspended for the moment. You might can get a free key still at fileplanet (you don't have to subscribe just register).
Was going to suggest getting at gogamer.com as it was on sale for 9.99 but they raised the price again.
Goodluck! Hope you enjoy the experience!

Call me when you finally get DX10 working.
Then we'll talk about my returning.

Personally I love the community on AoC - you have to be over 18 to be that childish ;) But each to their own. For me it's a good laugh after a crap day at work.
I keep saying it but it really is a fun little game now, and people who subbed and quit in the early days should probably have another look.
Don't expect anything mind blowing original, or even smooth and polished, it's just... fun

Nice, I was waiting for that too since hearing the game has improved a lot; wasn't sure about paying to give it a spin, so this 14-day reactivation trial is perfect; gonna find my AoC DVD and reinstall tonight.

Do we get to use our old characters and stuff? Like, a COMPLETE re-activation for 2 weeks? If so, hell yes! I've been wanting this for a very long time.

It certainly looks that way, Draimen. The official message reads as follows:
"Welcome back to Age of Conan!
As there have been a lot of improvements to Age of Conan since you last visited, we would like you to check out the changes yourself.
This time-limited offer lets you re-activate your account with no obligations and receive 2 weeks of additional playtime for free.
This offers ends on 22/07/09."
The site to reactivate is here: http://www.ageofconan.com/updates/
..or you can just log in to your account page where there's a special section set up for this: https://register.ageofconan.com/account

Yes, your old characters. Further, if you ALREADY had at least 1 (one) character to level 50, you'll get an option for another class of your choosing character instantly brought to level 50.

I guess I may as well give this a reactivation shot. Afterall if I gave WAR another choice it's only fair to give AoC another choice (even though I know I won't stay for longer than those 2 weeks probably due to Aion coming soon).

Uh...is there any free trial for new players? I couldn't find one on the site.

@Daniel, they have actually suspending free trials until the end of the 14 days for returning players.
I reinstalled when I got my 14 day email.
So far I've really been enjoying it and while the game ran pretty stable for me at launch (I was one of the lucky ones) it runs much better now. I used to be able to play it for about four hours before I would have to restart due to memory leakage. I ran it for over 12 hours straight yesterday without any issues at all.
The new gear itemization system is great. It is nice to be able to make informed decisions on whether a piece of gear is a upgrade or not, AND care if chest pops after killing a mob and hoping for a upgrade.
Class changes have been pretty significant and have taken some getting used too.
The global chat channel is painful, but that is the case in almost every mmo now. Players just need to decide whether to turn it on or not.
So far it gets a thumbs up. Similar to my experience of playing EQ2 at launch, not liking it, and coming back a year latter and liking the changes enough to stick around.

Right, for returning players they have free trials. What about completely new players?
