This is probably the first time in 10 weeks i've read this much praise for AV in a single forum.

holy god people are hpyed, and if Aventurine fucks up ANYWHERE with this.. they fuck it permanently.

Expansion my Great Aunt. Its a PATCH admittedly a big one that may well be the turning point for the game assuming it is done properly but nonetheless its a PATCH being being trumpeted as a "Free expansion"

I am sure someone will argue the point but IMHO if you have to download it to play the game its a patch. Expansions are exactly that expansions they expand on the game already existing. This is merely adding to the core game.

That being said it sounds really good. However with Aventurine's track record it sounds too good to be true.

Lol, what? So how exactly are "expand on the game already existing" and "adding to the core game" different again? Generally a patch fixes bugs while an expansion adds them--er--adds new content. In reality though, they're both the same. Boxed expansions fix bugs, large patches add content...differentiating them in any meaningful way is silly.

If Aventurine continues to offer free expansions, kudos to them; finally a company doing it the proper way (nod to CCP as well), IMO.

Why do I get a feeling that Darkfall is about to get the Trammel treatment very very soon.

Because of all the PVE attention I guess..it just seems like they are trying to carebear Darkfall all of a sudden. Which would be stupid considering the number of times adventurine insulted PVE players

meh, patch or expansion

- Fast travel
- Player housing + village system (this alone make sit worth the title expansion)
- Weather system (finnaly!)
- Redone PvE
- Rebalanced skills, stats and their gains
- introduction of random chest spawns and rare rewards

yaeh... it's a expantion... or a patch...or awsome in a bottle with baby jesus on top... IF it delivers.

I remember that I tried to purchase Darkfall for about a week, and finally gave up.
Can you actually still purchase a copy, or have they stopped selling them all together until the NA launch happens?

You can now purchase the game. how ever if you plan on playing in NA, I would wait. No sense in paying twice.

NOTE: This is a question, not an implied criticism of any particular game ...

Given that Darkfall seems to be all about the PvP (i.e. I didn't even know they _had_PvE gameplay), is there really any reason to play Darkfall if you're not hardcore into PvP?

I mean, you can PvE in EVE Online too, but the majority of the game's development focus obviously lies elsewhere. As such, PvE is arguably the least interesting thing one can do in EVE.

Likewise, is PvE in Darkfall a minor element, or is there enough of it to engage those who enjoy this sort of gamplay?

If you are looking for PvE, stay clear away from DarkFall. DarkFall is really a PVP only game. Even if you try to PvE, some high skilled a-hole always comes around to kill you with him and his buddies. I don't see how people can enjoy a game where you have to hope some gankers don't come attack you out of no where Every 10 minutes.

If the community had better people instead of relentless killing of low-skilled people, The game might not be so bad.

Darkfall is, DarkFail.

Atruehitt is a troll.

PvE in darkfall is an important piece of the overall pie. PvE is necessary to build skills and wealth. One of the best aspects of Darkfall is that nowhere is safe -- go PvEing expecting company. Don't expect to solo PvE out in the bush. But remember, it is a two way street. If you don't like being ganked while PvEing, then start being one of the gankers. Either way, PvE is a preamble to PvP. If you're only into PvE, you should probably steer clear. There are no instances (but there are dungeons), no purples, and no "I win" buttons.

The expension list is great and finally brings in a lot of community feedback to the game. Even witht the division of EU and NA server (I am playing on EU) and a smoother entry into the game, new players will be attrackted soon.

A big thanks to Anveturine, doing a great job and standing by their intention do give players a different MMO experience - offside the mainstream.

So I am pretty curious for downloading the patch soon.

I've been playing Darkfall for just over 4 months now, in between bouts of EVE, Empire:Total War and the recently released ARMA 2 (Damn you Steam!). After reading some of the comments, it makes me laugh..

Not every game put out onto the market is for every player, if this was the case, it would make for a very boring market indeed. The reasons that attracted me to Darkfall in the first place is the very fact that you are in constant danger of being attacked and losing the hard earned gear you are carrying. It gives you a sense of danger no other game (Bar UO) has given me to date. This is what they advertised and this is what they acheived. Admittedly it has many shortfalls in the features that were promised, but overall it is still an amazing world to play in.

Why do people feel the need to bag a game out, thus possibly turning people away from it because of their unintelligent and unfounded comments? Darkfall is an innovative game, the devs I feel are building it in a similar way to the way EVE began, start small and grow as needed. Too many games promise the world and end up bankrupt due to too much ambition (ie - Creating 15 servers, when they really only needed a couple) They are not spending unecessary money on advertising and massive marketing campaigns. I'm not in a position to say I am correct, but I believe they are sitting exactly where they wanted to be at this stage.

Sorry to ramble, but going back to my main point, Darkfall is NOT for everybody. But I urge people who have a real sense of adventure, exploration and are bored with the cookie cutter MMOs being churned out these days to give this a go.

Ok I'm done with my wall of text. =)

I think it comes down to: Do you want to solo or team play most of the time? Solo, then stick with PvP. If group play then try a PvP game.

Every time you see people complain about ganking it usually translates as been taken down by a team of co ordinated players while you charge around on you're own. I know because I've done this many times myself.

The game is immaterial, the PvP rules still apply: You can not spend most of the time solo-ing and expect not to be farmed a lot. If this is your main style of play you'd be better off not bothering with any PvP on any game, or at least be willing to change your style and see how it goes.

Lots of respect to any developers trying something new like these guys. I'm sure any bugs will be patched as times goes on. It's kind of cool that they are limiting the server numbers, until the game is more polished as I suppose you only want the die hards getting on board who might be willing to be a bit more long term thinking about stuff.
