I'd sign back up for EQ today if they'd release a classic server, where people were forced to play in the original zones with the original rules. Basically a nostalgia server.

Who are they trying to appeal to with a 51/50 server, new customers who want to rush to eq's endgame? Are people interested in playing a 10 year old game who have never played it before?

I'd heavily consider playing a progression server myself. Start at the original, and once a year add the next expansion, I'd play till the end of planes of power, so that's several years right there.

I think 4 years, if my memory serves correctly. I'd probably play all the way through Omens of War. The Epic 2.0s were fun. After that, everything get's a bit ridiculous.

Well there's always the mac version of EQ...it's only up to PoP and hasn't moved since, from launch. There have been a few small patches, but if you don't mind needing OSX to run it, that's about as close to an official classic server as you'll probably find.
