"I have to ask, what do you think BioWare's The Old Republic means for SWG? Is there room for two Star Wars MMOs?

Questions regarding The Old Republic should be directed to our partner, LucasArts."

nice way to avoid the question.

translation

"I uh... *craps pants* we sold 1 million boxes since launch!"

Yeah, that's a nice way to avoid a legitimate question. He asks for the guy's opinion about competition, guy uses Lucas Arts to hide the fact he knows bloody well that their game is failing. His answer sounds autonomous, I could make a robot that says the same thing at the mention of SW:TOR.

I'll admit I'm not a fan of SWG, specially since they trashed the game's original style in an attempt to gain people. I have little respect for SOE, and this only proves to reinforce that.

Yeah, what a lame way to dodge that question. He pretty much admitted that The Old Republic is a sore subject for them and that they are operating in their own little denial bubble.

Actually, I think they have some kind of agreement not to talk. Bioware was asked the same question in regards to SWG, and they declined to answer also.

Doubt it. Chris said, "Since it's ultimately based on their feedback I think our updates are generally well received."

Seems SOE is still in denial about NGE, which was a slap in the face to every player at the time. We'll never forget how SOE chose to essentially rewrite the game to bring in new WoW blood under the assumption that existing players would simply whinge a bit and keep playing because it's the only SW MMO.

Yeah. Unless your feedback isn't considered if your account was made at least prior to six months after NGE, and none of your information matches an account that was.

"Our updates were well received"

Man this guy is living in a Ewok fantasy isn't he?

I love how he copped out of talking about TOR. He could've commented on his being eager about it as a consumer and not as a soon to be outdated game's producer.

And SWG hasn't had an expansion in 4 years(that card game crap don't count), I hope it's an expansion. When the NGE hit they claimed they'd keep making game expansions, but then they suddenly stopped after making 3 in the past year leading up to the NGE. I always found that very telling of how big of an impact the NGE had on killing the player base. So yeah, a new expansion for the game would be nice.

When asked, the responce by LucasArts was: "There's room for two Star Wars mmo. Room for one on cruise control mant and room for one to make money. There's just not enough room for two successful ones"

Honestly, I wonder how big the team is for the game at this point.

It's sad seeing a once great mmo be ruined over the years and not just being milked for all it's worth and on life support..... just let it die.

I hope all 300 subscribers enjoy the upcoming year :P

All kidding aside, I never like to see a game or business fail so I hope brighter days are ahead. No way this can survive after TOR comes out though.

Greatest Year EVER!!! Wasn't the Ewok Festival of Love this year?

Why don't they release an unsupported Classic Server already?

Most people think that the one of the new things being introduced today is a tie in to the new Star Wars horror book DeathTroopers that is coming out (think zombies).

A image from fan faire was posted on the SWG forums last night showing han and chewie fighting zombies.

I did not play pre-NGE would have loved to though. I tried this game but did not like it and ever since been waiting for a good SW MMO. Now with TOR I cant wait for it.

Its funny the way he avoided the question, its like someone asked him not to talk

"Now off the record, Tell me how you really feel?"

"I have my resume waiting in BioWare"

random? yes, because i just thought of it.

The guy's probably been told not to talk about SW:TOR, since any substantial answer -- something other than the short non-answer he gave -- would end up plastered all over the internet about seven seconds after the words left his mouth.

The last thing you want to do is give free "advertising" to your main competition.

You know one thing I definitely will not miss when SW:TOR comes around? The way some people talk endlessly about how "great" and "perfect" the pre-NGE version of Star Wars Galaxies was ...

Honestly, I do get that people preferred that version of SWG over what came later, but as time has gone on, people have somehow transformed pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies into some kind of "mythical golden age" of MMO gaming -- and the was simply never **that** good.

Not to say it wasn't **enjoyable** for many; only that SWG always had bugs and problems and flaws, thoughout its lifespan.

I was in from the beginning, and I was finding the same bugs, years later, post-NGE, that I found (and reported) during launch week.

On a larger scale, lets not forget that this was a Star Wars MMO game which shipped without space gameplay!

It took a year to get that aspect up and running, and then SOE *charged* us all for it, as a full-price retail expansion.

Again, I do get that people loved the pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies playstyle more, but this constant, borderline-delusional rewriting of history has really started to get on my tits.

Just because people liked the pre-NGE SWG better doesn't mean it was some perfect, golden MMORPG.

I look forward to Star Wars: The Old Republic for many reasons -- not least of which is that it might **finally** make people stop talking about the imaginary "perfect days" of pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies!
