The Fallen Earth stress test that is being run through Fileplanet (which we reported on a few days ago) has had the "subscriber-only" restriction lifted. Because of this, those that were on the fence about paying for the beta will now only need to register for a regular Fileplanet account to get into the game -- a much easier decision to make, we're sure you'll all agree.
If you do want to give the Fallen Earth stress test a go at the new bargain price of 'free', sooner is better than later, as there is a limited amount of promotional keys to be given away (you can get them here). Check out the Fallen Earth Stress Test FAQ for more information about this phase of testing.
[Thanks, Aetrix.]

I agree with all you said, i misjudged you too, im afraid.
I got my hopes high too for the future. Players can't stomach another game with WoW quests anymore, you can see it even in the "grinders" strips. they also realized it's not good business, it's not gonna beat WoW... and so we'll see more games like Mortal, hopefully. Innovation is coming slowly, and i hope they'll realize how boring the babysitting quests are, and how deeply they affect the whole game because character progression is simply the main activity of the game, no matter how different it tries to be in the other elements, it will always have the same underlying structure.

Likewise on my part. :)
That's really all we can do, is hope. Innovation *will* come eventually, it has to, or at least I like to think it has to. WoW's formula, well, it hasn't been a runaway success for any other companies yet has it? Eventually they have to realize, hey, if we make a game to parallel WoW, why should anyone bother to come play it? You can't copy WoW to be successful, you NEED to innovate. You need to innovate without sucking though. That's the catch.
I think people are starting to catch onto this though.
Anyways, I'm out. Nice talking with ya Fenriz. :)

I'm beginning to think that the only people that read massively are people that don't like MMOs at all.
Comparing this game to WoW (comparing any game to WoW is just asinine. If the majority of the people spouting "WoW clone" about every game that comes down the pike choose not to play those games all the better.
As for the only way to gain experience is from quests (just like every other MMO ever made) that's not true of Fallen Earth. If you'd like you can level all the way to 45 just by crafting. I'm pretty sure that's a feature I've heard people clamoring about for years. But, nope, this is (like every other game made apparently) just another WoW clone.
Your arguments are stale and facetious. Feel free to Troll but please, take another level and learn some new skills. Your old WoW clone fireball no longer singes my armor.

Every MMO ever made ??????Did planetside, star wars galaxies, UO have quests??????
What about Anarchy Online? Did it have quests? YES. Were they like WoW? NO!
Didn't you notice that before WoW games were all different and original creations? And after that they all obeyed to same clichés of killing x rats? Planetside is one of the last original games made before the cataclysm. it didn't even have PVE!! FE for some reason had to have PvE and quests. Can you tell me WHY?

After trying it I think it's safe to say I'm not really a fan of this game. Maybe they'll fix all the bugs before the release but it very much felt more like an alpha state game than a beta, especially one that they are showing to the public. Movement was very jumpy and at times unresponsive, lag was pretty bad at some parts considering how bad the game looked and the UI felt really clunky.
Fenriz, WoW Clone is still stupid. It's obvious that this game is very little like WoW. The idea of a clone is that it is pretty much, mechanic for mechanic, just like what it is imitating. It is one thing to have some things that are a passing similarity to the MMO genre in general, it's another thing to just be a direct clone. I don't think there are any games out there that can say LOL WE ARE COMPLETELY A WOW CLONE, yet person after person decides to express their hate for the genre by spewing that out.
You want to see "clones" of games? Look at all of the Mortal Kombat clones back in the day. These were games that, pretty much step by step, were the exact same as mortal kombat was. These days it seems like an MMO needs to some how revolutionize the way we do, well, EVERYTHING in order to not be a clone.
What is worse is these games get slammed for being clones when a lot of times you guy's bitching just want a fucking Ultima Online "clone" or something. There aren't many different ways to make a game, you should realize that by now.
So at this point I'm not sure what would make some people happy, and I don't think some people will be happy with the MMO genre at all no matter what. Even if we got rid of every convention we could think of... quests, levels, the UI, ect. I think we would still try and draw comparisons to WoW. "Dear god, this game is in a persistant world. WOW CLONE"
The point I'm trying to make is that MMOs are going to draw some similarities to other MMOs, it's kind of the point of them being lumped together in a genre.
Genre[zhahn-ruh; Fr. zhahn-ruh ]
noun
1. a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like.

Nadril, I think I can agree with your opinion of the game. The performance definitely isn't where it should be for this level of detail. This is one of those games that I think will be totally awesome in a year when they get everything optimized and tweaked.

HEh, naturally the term WoW clone isn't to be taken literally, beside that, everyone has his conception.
For me the quests(and character progression) is the most important part of an MMO, and because FE quests are exactly like WoW, for me it's a wow clone.
Because the other elements are secondary, IMO, and they end up influenced by the quests.
There's a difference between similarities and copycat, too.
And i repeat, there's prolly a MILLION new ways to conceive a persistant virtual world, since the only requirement is, ipso facto, that of being persistant and virtual.
Certainly, I would like a new UO(mortal, hopefully) because UO was a truly open world simulation, there should be more online games like it. And still We would start criticizing it too if games kept recycling UO over and over(not happening yet, is it?), which is just what happened with WoW in these last 5 years... 5 years of absolute pain and decadence.
This doesn't mean that all the new MMO's after WoW-age were entirely clones... they did try to change combat and some took something off UO, and others made it MORe accessible(in this case we can say they copied WoW politics of accessibility... see markers on the map for the destination, markers on the map NOW EVEN for the quest giver!), but the underlying structure was that, there's no escape. And it affected the whole game parts.
Why aren't there more games like EVE, where you level up just waiting?
What about a social way to level up for star trek online? To be assigned to a star fleet ship you have to study a bunch of in-game books, then you have to pass in-game exams with in-game seers.

Don't bother. Worst MMO I've ever tried. Very disappointed. Definitely not the Fallout MMO people want.

In a hardly-surprising epic fail from Fileplanet, it seems that while non-paying subscribers can now sign up for stress test keys.. they can't download the client. Every question on the subject on the Fallen Earth forums is being locked or deleted.
Fileplanet.. just say no. Developers, you're supposed to get money from your publisher. Not by whoring out your beta test to those scumbags for a paycheck.

1 - to all of you in the FE beta (by whatever means) you are under NDA
2- BETA.BETA.BETA.BETA.BETA
stop whining about graphics, bugs, animations being "off", balance, optimization the game has no set release date and unles sit's 2 weeks before that and it's still fucked up - then whine. AFTER DNA hs been lifted. if you are in beta, you are there for a reason. SEND IN BUG REPORTS.
3 - as for it being a wow clone/bag/ripoff/"shit"
- Level by doing Quests, Grinding mobs, Crafting, Gathering, Scavaging (never touch a mob and level to 45 by gathering/crafting alone. yup.)
- Quests dont just give XP. Xp is use dto level and levels give "points" to spend. there are quests that give these points as well. your level cap is not your limit of power, find those quests and powa up.
- combat works as it should. yuo have targetting but no auto-aim. melee is melee, ranged is ranged and the sheer differsity in playstyle makes this cool as anything
- crafting is time based and works offline as well. it might take you a day to craft that motorcycle ,but you can just turn it on and head to bed and it'll craft on by itself.
4 - stop comparing it to WoW, Fallout, "Insert generic MMO". compare it to itself and it's playvalue.

I've read all 20 comments thus far. Most of you are crying about it being a WoW clone. The only intelligent response has been from Nadril saying
"The point I'm trying to make is that MMOs are going to draw some similarities to other MMOs, it's kind of the point of them being lumped together in a genre."
Fenriz thinks that since there are quests in this game, its a WoW clone.
Ok, so, every single fps out there is a copy of Wolfenstein, because you have a single weapon you run around with and shoot. You need ammo, and you need health packs. EVERY single FPS is a Wolfenstein clone then. Honestly, who gives a shit if anything is like anything else? These are human beings making these games, and as humans, we learn from shit we already did, use what worked, and scrap what didn't. This is what any developer is trying to do. Also, this is common fucking sense, lol.
It's not a clone because it has a feature another game does, or it feels like another game to you. That just means you play to many MMO's and your jaded as hell.
Another thing is.... It's a beta. It's supposed to feel shity, buggy, and not work correctly... Have you all ever Beta'd anything.. ever? The point of beta forums arent to shit all over the game because it has bugs, its to report them to the devs respectfully so they can be fixed for the ACTUAL release. You kids make me laugh.
