I don't think they'll rush APB just to get funding for their "first choice" MMO.
I mean I'm sure they, and I hope every other MMO developer, has learned from Tabula Rasa and Age of Conan in the rushing games out department...
Plus they have 250 people working on APB so I don't think they view it as just a means to an end. While APB is a break from the norm, a fairly new innovation into MMO's (for the most part) I'm guessing their "first choice" MMO is probably quite a break from the norm and they would like to get APB up and established, making money to fund that project, which again I believe to be a BIG departure from current MMO's. That's probably why the went this route. Getting funding etc for the MMO they WANT to make is harder than making an awesome (in idea at least), but not completely genre breaking, MMO like APB. Look for a press release to this effect soon following this announcement. I have zero insider knowledge, just common sense.
Look at Bioware, they made KOTOR to get established and secure funding for Mass Effect and Dragon Age. I know, I know that's Bioware...but hey it's a good idea.
I hope this is the same type of move by Realtime Worlds.
