They got their priorities mixed up.

1) Fix performance
2) Fix scenarios
3) Fix population problems
4) Fix public quests
5) Drop subscription model for RMT (this probably fixes #2, #3, and #4)

Let me first say I was one of those people looking forward to WAR. I was a card carrying greenskin wannabe up until I got into Beta.. I got in and there were some major things that bothered me. (granted this was beta).

Mob pathing was insanely bad.
Horrible Lag
Boring quests
Being forced to pvp

Yes, it's warhammer. I expect to be bashing stunties in pvp, but I don't want to be forced to do so just to get new gear. Which was the case. I love quests, I love quest rewards. I loved PQs, they were awesome the first time I did one. But when you have to grind them just to get gear, AND despite how much you put out, you aren't garanteed anything. I am pretty sure there was a HUGE todo about how someone was able to figure out how to game the PQ system.

What it really came down to though was being forced to PVP in order to get gear. I was assured that when I played WAR I would be able to play the game and not have to pvp or pvp very little. I do like PVP, I just don't want to spend all day doing it.

I tried the game a month or two ago once more, it seemed not much had changed. The pathing was mostly fixed, but my other problems still remained. I had high hopes for WAR. I loved DAOC, and I love the warhammer universe.. I love Mythic. I think they are one of the best gaming companies out there. I can only hope that in the future there might be a DAOC2 with an updated engine and newer features.. For now, I'll stick with WOW and ROM...

So what you are basically complaining about is that its not mostly a PvE game. They basically told us from the get go that is wasnt going to be PvE focused, so why pick it up at all if you are not interested in PVP?

Dude, it's WAR (read that again, WAR), you're not supposed to pick damn flowers and knit sweaters in it. How can you expect anything else from the IP?

Having said that, grinding scenarios was the thing that really got to me. I was expecting RvR - a lot of it (yeah, too much damn Paul Barnett pre-hype, I totally bought into it and expected a lot of great RvR) - and the PQ mechanic seemed very cool to begin with.

Turns out everyone and their hamsters were grinding scenarios, after scenarios, after scenarios.. and PQ's very completely damn empty if you were left behind the leveling curve (i.e. not grinding yourself mad in scenarios), and there was no RvR to speak of - at all - you could spend hours waiting in the RvR areas and no one would come. And scenarios were just bleak copies of WoW battlegrounds.. so goddamn boring I was tearing my fingernails out in frustration...

Also @ScytheNoire, you pretty much nailed it there..

So yeah, still kinda waiting for them to fix it and deliver at least a fraction of that pre-launch hyped RvR.

Same redundant bullshit every 4 months. Only difference is MJB no longer makes the posts b/c he's to stubborn to eat crow over his comments about how to gauge a successful game.

There is a reason the game is called "Borehammer" in certain corners of the web. All of these priorities do not for one moment focus on the Bored issue. The game world is cut and paste all the way from tier 1 to tier 2. It's all the same.

My proposed priorities are this:

1. NPC and MOB AI overhaul. Make them BAF(Bring a Friend) and more of a challenge to at least be somewhat fun. LOTRO and WoW do this very well.

2. Add a certain music piece to each zone dependent on zone. What we have now is 1 or 2 pieces of music, based on race, that plays in EACH and EVERY tier zone of that racial pairing. BORING. Again, WoW, LOTRO, AoC, EQ2 all do this exceptionally well.

3. Make PQ's give reknown, make quests point to them and have you actually complete a PQ for a sweet quest reward.

4. Ok, performance is a big issue, definitely work on this.

5. Ok, now that the FUN part of the game is focused on(the first 3), now fix the CC issues within RVR.

They do this, and I would gladly fork over money to play the game, I'd even talk about it with friends and try to get them to play.

LOL......can someone go back and pull up the list that that snake oil salesman, Mark Jacobs, posted at launch regarding their "top" 5 priorities? I could swear they're identical.

Jeff, I have a top 5 list for you -

1. Slit the throat of every EA executive
2. Have Mark Jacobs eat himself to death
3. Set Paul Barnett on fire and video tape it and post it on Youtube
4. Fix your effing game
5. Address combat responsiveness.......

people that spend their time aggressively directing hate towards a video game and its developers need to go outside and spend some time in the "sun" maybe try to meet a member of the "opposite sex" and get "laid"

and then they need to go and see a "shrink" about why they have all this built up hatred and aggression that is directed towards a pixelated world in a virtual space.

All of you game hater, from AoC to WAR to DF need to stop using the internet. You just soak up bandwidth the rest of us non-nerdrage gamers could be using to be constructive.

Maybe the rage is directed at them because they expected one product, paid for it and got an unfinished product that wasn't anywhere near what was promised to them. I don't *hate* WAR persay, I just think Mythic could have done better. I honestly blame it on EA, not anyone else. EA and/or SOE has ruined damn near every game I ever really enjoyed playing in some fashion or another by either pushing it too early or not supporting it properly after release or the cries of the players go completely unheard.

So.. thanks for that extremely useful and constructive comment.

Anyway, I can't see much of the mentioned "hate" in the comments - yes people are disappointed and frustrated, but that's fairly understandable considering what was "promised" and advertised pre-launch and what has been delivered since.

I think this topic pretty much reflects that disappointment - there are not too many positive comments in this thread yet, you could have posted one and tried to start constructive discussion, but you decided to sink on the haters level and insult everyone posting here.

If you read some of the old posts from AoC launch, you can see much of the same frustration reflected in posts (though, I admit, there are some old posts that really border on being "hate", but that's not the point). Then read some posts from other games and you'll realize Massively has plenty of constructive discussion going and there really is place for both expressing your disappointment and expressing joy here.

So how about you post something positive and constructive and we'll see if it sparks some discussion?

what you fail to understand is that its rage. rage?

seriously people these are video games, until you have developed your own MMO stfu, you paid for a product that didn't meet your nostalgic expectations of what the game should have been, but that doesn't entitle you to be a child about it.

Dont act like its just this game too, head to any MMO forum and its the same shit, just different game.

i haven't worked on an MMO, i'm not even in the industry but i have friends that do and are. I don't bitch, i don't hate. i play to have fun and if i'm not having fun i find something else to do. ive been playing MMOs long enough to see what the crying idiots do to a game. i put a lot of stock into my gaming, but the emo 1337 kids that freak out need to eat a handful of asprin and jump into traffic.

SOE, im not going to comment on, but if you think that the cry of rabbits are going unheard your a fool, they hear you, they see what your posting, and they are making note. just because a dev doesnt hold your hand everytime there is a mechanic you dont like or the server crashes doesnt mean they dont give a shit. in MMOs customers=money. Ignoring your customer means not money, unless your customers are whiny little douche bags.

:)

Is there any chance of some class balancing? At least for the "Mirrored" classes? I was a sorc up to 40+ and to be eatin alive by BW on a regular basis and not able to get any other class down to 50% before dying was enough to run me off. A sorc without a dedicated healer following in RvR was a friggin joke to say the least.

No I'm not complaining that it's not mostly a PVE game. I'm complaining that there really is no PVE element to it whatsoever. I watched lots of interviews, read everything I could on WAR Pre-release. Paul told me, and all of us that one could PVP throughout the game to level, or they could PVE and level with very little pvp. The exploration, etc.. My point is that all they delivered was (as SGTBaker pointed out), a series of scenarios and very little rvr. Its like playing WOW and leveling in the battlegrounds on a pvp server. It misses the point completely.

In the end, I was expecting the game to be way more balanced between PVE and PVP than it was. And I seriously expected that you'd get loot from leveling. And well, the crafting is just a joke.

But it's Warhammer, if you like spending all day in the same battleground, with the same people, farmin RPs. Be my guest. It's your $15 bucks my friend, who am I to tell you what's fun. All I'm doing is explaining why I didn't end up buying the game. It just didn't live up to my expectations, and didn't even remotely end up living up to the hype. It's too bad, because like AOC, it was a solid idea. It was just not implimented as fully as it could have been.

I'll check back with WAR in a year or so after things smooth out. But quite honestly, I think it's a bit early for an expansion just yet. From what's being said here, the game isn't even stable yet.

Loved it when it came out, although I had little things I didn't like. It has been getting better and better. 1.3 came with a lot of great tweaks and fixes. And I know that some people didn't like the game because they wanted something else, but can we please stop the hate comments in each WAR post? It is getting to the point that I don't want to come to this site any longer.

They've been telling us the same BS since people started hitting T4 and complaining and they've yet to actually address the problems. Sorry I've been fooled to many times to buy their BS anymore.

Until someone tells me it's actually been changed or I see the patch notes I won't believe it. I've been strung along since beta that the AM would be looked at and it's still not been looked at.

There's been AOE problems since essentially the start of 2009, how have they seriously not addressed this yet? Or rather, how have they not gone about overhauling it in two of the major patches since then when that has been the main complaint about the class balancing in this game.

The fundamentals of this game rock. Two sides, massive war, battling for land and keeps, the ability to take over cities. But the execution has been awful.

Postman, your responses would carry so much more weight if you
properly capitalized and used SOME grammar. I love a good argument
but after reading your counter-points and wincing thru most of it I
cannot help but visualize some fat 15 yr old fanboy angrily slamming
keyboard keys.
