Analysts really do like to live up to their job titles, because Colin Sebastian went all out at this year's E3 event. But his biggest prediction? This year online games will rake in $11 billion dollars in revenue, out of a global $44 billion in the videogame market. That's a whole heaping ton of cash, and a sizable chunk of the pie, too.
With Free Realms hitting three million players in only two months, it's safe to say that online games are indeed becoming a force to be reckoned. We're kind of in amazement when considering the potential numbers of Star Wars: The Old Republic's first few months after launch.
The next few years are certainly going to be interesting for online games. Hopefully by the end of it all, we'll still be able to walk outside without immediately hissing and burning alive from the sunlight.

It simply boggles the mind to see folks money being wasted like this, what a criminal enterprise these developers and distributors have going for them, and its legal. With a wave and a speech touting "thats the way its always been done" they steal your money and most of you folks let them. No one is held to task.
If it was for a good cause or something decent... i wonder what percentage of that figure could be counted as fraudulant funds and would people admit they wasted money or were in flat terms, ripped off by adverts and want billions of that money back.

We should make a drinking game here at Massively. Every time Free Realms is mentioned, we should take a drink.

@Graill...This type of shallow thinking is a waste time/breath/life and you’re talking about one’s leisure time being a waste? Leisure time (an enjoyable activity engaged in for its own sake) ends up being a critically important part of a healthy life. With this mentality you need to stop people from playing golf, writing for fun, movies, television/cable, reading, and everything else that fails to – oh, wait, you did not list all the endeavors that are a good use of time. Heck online gaming (if you play a single game) may be the least expensive option! And what part of it is criminal? Details, please. In the end this is a horribly unintelligent stance to take because the value of money (what we spend it on) is subjective and as long as the spender feels satisfied you’re simply wrong. It may be a waste for YOU but not a universal label with any merit.
