Cryptic Studios has revealed the finalized Champions Online box art, which you can expect to have it sitting in your pretty hands come September. We've always been fans of having actual art on our game boxes over anything else. If you want to take a look at the full high-res version, you can find it on the official game website.
There's a definite sense of intensity and overall the art does a good job at capturing that climatic battle between good and evil. Plus, it has a giant robot in it, which is always an instant bonus in our books. Now the only question that remains is what the special edition box will look like -- of it there'll even be one in the first place.

I like it. Reminds me of a comic book cover. Fits the game genre.

I think I would have preferred something a little more Pop Art. Maybe an Action Comics mock-up with tri-color dots or something.

I'd really like to be more excited about this game but when the artwork, the images, the main characters, the storyline, etc... bear so much resemblance to City Of Heroes it's hard not to think that this game is just CoH 2.0. That wouldn't be a bad thing if it were actually being produced by the people that own City of Heroes but the guys that were involved in the original development of COH broke away and look to have heavily cribbed from the original. Add in the incident where they were caught recruiting beta testers on CoH's message boards and the whole thing leaves me cold...

I wish Champions Online WAS CoH 2.0, instead it's CoH 0.5 because it takes huge steps backwards in areas like combat. If this game is next gen of anything, it would be Double Dragon 2.0. The only areas this game has been better then CoH is the Travel Powers which are a nice jump ahead of CoH's old ones.
I really hope they can turn things around in the next 2.5 months with this game, otherwise it will be this years WAR where if it has a decent launch, it loses more then 60% of it's players in the first 3 months because the game loses all of its flare so quickly.

What? What's wrong with recruiting players from CoH? That game is OLD. Champions is the next step. What is it with you people and your fear of change? I hope it IS like CoH minus the parts that made me not want to play the game. Like, the controls!

That's exactly it, though. You're just going off hopes. You're hoping this game will be the game you wanted City of Heroes to be. I'm sure Jack Emmert has plenty of new and interesting ways to disappoint his player base.
Also, what's with the pose in that picture? Statesman versus Recluse anyone? You'd think all heroes do the clashing-lunge-punch by this trend.

All I know about Champions is what I've read on game news sites. Are you in the beta or know someone who is?

Yo CCon99, how do you know so much about the gameplay? If you are currently playing the game and are commenting about game features, then you just violated your NDA. Nice going, ace.
And if Champions has a launch similar to WAR, it (like WAR) will be a success. When you have over 300,000 people regularly playing your game, it is a successful game. Especially when you consider how crappy the economy is right now.

there's some serious lack of proportions between the good dude's head and the rest of the body, exp. his hands...other than that, I like it
(but I'da preferred a Ninja Acrobat Bowman on hoverboard)
