The documentary is hosted by Jason "Jace" Hall (of the Jace Hall Show) and features interviews not only with some of the main brains behind the game, but also with another very important group of people -- the players. We aren't sure yet when those who aren't visiting Fan Faire will be able to see it, but for now, check after the break for a preview trailer.

We don't doubt that many of our readers first got their feet wet in the world of MMOs with EverQuest, a game that gave rise to addictions so severe that it was often referred to as "EverCrack" by its loyal fans. It's these folks (this blogger amongst them) that will likely get the most enjoyment out of a new documentary called EverCracked! The Phenomenom of EverQuest that is set to debut at SOE Fan Faire 2009 later this month.

Oh my god...
Hearing that intro music again after 2-3 years of not playing EQ2 sent shivers down my spine...

Once again I will say it...
Over haul the game engine..
upgrade the graphics to Lotro/Wow standards...
fix the quests so that it isn't a grind like it was...
then relaunch the game and watch the flocks roll in....

Everquest had the most engaging combat of any game to date. Unfortunately, they've watered that down into something easier and more trivial than WoW. I would dearly love to play a game that focused on group oriented combat, with different classes and class roles, rather than the homogenized classes and simple, solo-centric encounters that's prevalent in today's mmos.

The problem I have with group based classes is mmorpgs fall into the pattern of using the archetype system like EQ2 or WAR use. I hate this because theres always like 4 versions of a priest or whatever and why do you need more than one? All they've done is watered down the class to fill 4 classes and they then all feel bland and boring to play. Also this makes PVP really bad where you come up against classes you just can't beat because you're not meant to and thats no fun.
I love WoW's classes and it's the only class based mmorpg where I've found them all to be really fun to play. They all feel unique and have lots of kool fun spells and I lvoe all the hybrid classes. Theres not 4 different versions of a tank or a priest or a melee or ranged dps class. They all have their own role and play very diferently unlike say WAR where I swear the Chaos and Orc tanks are esactly the same.

Wow it just hit me. This is probably when they are going to announce EQ3. Remember back a few months (Maybe a year ago at most.)? When SoE was hiring for a new "flagship" project. They've had plenty of time to get some stuff working. If they are making an EQ3, I bet this will be the place they announce it.
Pure speculation. And I'm not even willing to bet anything on it. But it'd sure be neat!
