The problem with F2P games is they all come off as cheap game worlds with no content. Sure they might be fun to login to the first week or two, but then they just don't have that it factor to make you want to come back.

The only F2P MMO that I've liked so far was Wizard 101, and I only came to like that game after I wound up subscribing to it's monthly fee.

CCon, I don't think you've played enough F2P MMOs. I can guarantee you there are A LOT that are not like that from Runes of Magic to War Rock and now even DDO there are lots that are actually fun a very good.

It's funny this article (and the linked one) focus on several companys entering the market (or recently entering the market) but not others that have been there for years (GamersFirst/K2Network, Aeria, Ijji, Nexon and others, the first two of which are American companies).

The F2P games are getting better and better every year. So your comment may have been true several years ago but now, I don't know that it would be an accurate reflection of what is there and what is to come.

We're right now on the edge of a huge shift in the industry and starting to see more indications trickling into the mainstream. What we'll end up with once the transition has completed in a few years time, is more gaming choices for the player to try out without having to resort to piracy. There are very few reasons NOT to at least try a F2P game, and once you are trying it then it becomes the developers job to get you to stick around and play for a while.

The pricing model of the future mainstream will certainly be Free to Play in my opinion, it is highly successful already in dozens and dozens of games right now under the radar, and we'll continue to see more and more companies dipping their toe into the waters to see if it's hot enough. If done right, it IS.
