As strange as it seems, there's really not much to do with friends in Free Realms. The content is almost entirely geared towards solo play.

Besides, when the friend server is offline (which seems fairly common) you can't even talk to anyone except through the chat menu.

I kinda like how it's set up. Get all your friends on a team, everyone goes out and does their own thing and treats the party line like a chat room. Then whenever there's a combat instance involved, everyone warps in, beats guys up, then goes off to doing their own thing again.

The game really seems to cater to the OCD or ADD gamer types.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if you get your friends list to work, because the chat filter is so restrictive (can't say words like class or started because it filters out vulgar words in them), and they just made it even more so, because now you can't say numbers in any way. (ie. 1,2,3, one, two, three, million, hundred, etc).

The chat system is easy enough to get used to but the bottom line is that it's a kid's game and chat is filled with little kids.

For the small but dedicated community of adults the lack of Guilds is what is most painful. All chat is done with a large enough radius that it is littered with WER IS NINJA TRAINER and NE1 WANNA DUEL.

Yes FR really needs a global chat system (or any at all) but yet I see idiot parents constantly arguing against it "for the children". Puleeeeease.

Had a chance to catch the pop/rock band The Dares perform their original theme song for Free Realms at Sony's E3 Booth yesterday, and they sounded great! After their performance, the band was also given an award by Guinness World Records for being the first band to perform live simultaneously on stage and in virtual space within the game at Snow Hill. Very cool idea for E3, and the game is wonderful too. Register and play FR here if you haven't already www.freerealms.com

Free Realms is a cute game to fool around in every once in a while but that's one of the glaring problems it has. That and the chat system and filters. "Pickle" was seriously censored for a while. I'm not kidding. I don't think it is anymore though.

That and the controls are less flowing than say, EQ2's, but otherwise the game's alright.
