Last night at SOE's gigantic E3 booth, attendees were actually a part of history. The Dares -- that youthful pop-punk band that sings the light-heartedly rebellious theme song for Free Realms -- performed a small set for a live concert audience at E3 and simultaneously in the game. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, who awarded the bandmates a plaque after the concert, this is the first time this has been done. Yeah, sorry Second Life fans.
If you're interested in seeing the live performance of "It's Your World", and thereby getting it stuck in your head for the next three weeks, check it out after the jump below. There's also a separate video showing the Guinness World Record reception, as well. Congrats goes out to those guys, although I'm pretty sure they'll never read this.

Too bad it couldn't be a talented band that people actually care about.

Also, too bad that the online event was absolutely terrible other than the fact that people were all gathered in one place. It was really even a concert online. Just a huge rip off.

Okay this is sad, concerts performed simultaneously in real life and in a virtual space have been happening for years on Second Life. Actual real full concerts too, not a single song and calling it a concert. It's like Guinness seeing someone ride a motorcycle today and rewarding them with a plaque being the "first person to ever ride a motorcycle". Not that I care about Second Life at all, but come on let's be realistic!

It's sad, but this is the way Guinness does it for everything. Unless they have Guinness judges present to observe and recognize an event, it doesn't get into the book.
What this really says is that if those SL simulcast bands wanted to get into the Guinness Book for what they were doing, they should have spoke up.

SOE has got to get its stuff together if they want to keep this a kid friendly game. Some of the language that was being used was appalling and the refs did nothing. I called SOE today and apparently I wasn't alone as they are getting flooded by angry parent calls...but someoen should have thought this out.
The chat filters are so broken and easily by-passable even though I have the speed chat only enabled on my daughters account she still got to see all the pedophile comments via the chat bubbles which you have no choice of seeing. They need to get rid of open chat period. Then the creeps and second life tards will go elsewhere and the game can be enjoyed by those it was intended for.

It was exactly what they promised but it WAS a bit silly. The same song they had canned in-game since Beta and they just had animated singers on the stage.
Still, it was PACKED with players and across the servers I doubt many games have had as big a gathering.
Was still an amazing event regardless of how silly the entertainment or the "record" was.
Plenty of pics up on sites like FreeRealmsInsider, etc.

A few minutes of Googling produced:
"Worlds.com and Hanson Bring Fans Unique 3D Concert Experience."
Dated Saturday, May 6, 2000
And
BBC starts to rock online world. The virtual party will mirror BBC Radio 1's real-world, One Big Weekend event, being held in Dundee from 12 May. It will also be the first ever festival with a professional line-up to take place in a virtual universe.
Dated Friday, 12 May 2006
There are certainly many in between those dates but the Hanson event may of been the first with well known performers.

as a bit of an old schooler, back when punk was punk and let you know there was a reason to be angry at the world, seeing this comment makes me sad to see
"that youthful pop-punk band that sings the light-heartedly rebellious theme song "
a sad state of music

a lot of you are coming off jealous- and the rest of you need to realize that this song is for Free Realms, a game targeted at children.

Here's some great footage of The Dares performing the Free Realms theme song "It's Your World!"

It was also announced the game hit the 3 million user mark in just 7 weeks... great game, and I definitely recommend checking it out!
