The fact that WOW was even mentioned in the press conference made me cringe.

I hope if they take tips from any mmo it should be Aion rather than a mediocre mmo like WOW

Here's hoping for a simultaneous world-wide release date.

Agreed. The head start Japanese players had in FFXI was significant. It allowed them to corner the market on crafting, high end NM's and gear very early leaving NA's on the short bus.

Actually they confirmed a simultaneous release in japan, us and europe, with japanese, english, french and german language. So yeah, I guess you can hope.

Yay yay yayayay! Yes WoW is mentioned but they also said while they are going to be more casual friendly they are making a unique game to Square here. So don't be screaming copycat.

I'm thrilled and I can't wait to see what new systems they have in store for us that they've hinted at. ^_^

Another thing to be excited I no longer care what other mmo is on the horizon, other then Aion, this is the one for me. :D

At the moment the platforms on the site and everything they told actually confirms that the launch platforms will be PC and PS3. They'll probably add the 360 later, so it's still a timed exclusive. In any case, it's to be hoped that they release in all the platforms they can. More platforms -> more people playing the game -> More success for the game -> More content incoming for the players.

They didn't specifically say the 360, they said they were considering other hardware from Microsoft.
If you look at the way the 360 is built, and the fact that it was introduced in 2005, there is probably a strong chance we see a new machine from Microsoft at next years E3 for a 2010/2011 release.
Squeenix obviously knows more behind the scenes information about Microsofts time line for their next system than the public does (which is none).
The fact that the 360 wasn't specifically mentioned and that it was stated as "other console hardware" really makes me think that the PS3 is simply a timed exclusive, and they are going to wait to send this to a MS machine when they introduce the next console. This certainly would help them not be limited 5 years down the road by 360 architecture like they were with the PS2.
One can at least hope.

I really hope they make the PC controls better. Try playing FFXI on a PC, the keyboard controls are HORRIBLE, and the mouse is practically non-functional. You HAVE to have a gamepad controller to play FFXI comfortably, even on PC. So I seriously hope they fix the controls for FFXIV. Let us use WASD for movement, for one thing.

For the record, whoever came up with WASD is a retard. ESDF makes way more sense. Anyone who knows how to type automatically has their index finger fall on the F key.

Just sayin'

WASD is used because of the easy of using the keys around your movement keys, ie Ctrl, Tab, Space and others. ESDF might seem better because your hand is already there but it would make less sense gaming wise.

What they actually said at the Sony conference was that it will be "console" exclusive to the PS3. Not that means much any more.
