FFXI had the same sub-title on the game, I think you can pretty much expect that it is an MMO.

Nice. Androgynous characters with poetic nonsense dribbled across the background. I am so done with this series.

Welcome to 95% of all rpgs, online or otherwise. Maybe instead of posting on a site that deals with mostly online rpgs, you should go play something different.

Tips to make it better than FFXI:

1) Fix the economy. Less spawncampers, more auction house slots

2) Fix the XP Structure. Grinding isn't fun. Grinding in areas 10x your level with groups that dissolve after *finally* getting a healer? Very not fun.

3) Fix the population balance. Stop moving the entire game to a new continent with every expansion pack, thus eliminating the entire beginning of the game for new characters.

4) Fix the config panel. I shouldn't need to hack the registry to up the texture quality.

5) Fix the class imbalance. A Warrior at level 10 shouldn't be ten times better than a Black Mage at the same point. A Black Mage at 75 shouldn't be 10 times better than a warrior at the same point.

6) Fix Travel -- it just takes too long to get anywhere in FFXI. Warp points are an hour away from town, unless you've played the game for six months and can afford a ride. Then it's only 15 minutes.

7) Fix guilds and groups. 18 players max? Requiring linkshells to communicate? How archaic!

Do keep in mind you're talking about a game that launched on PS2 like.. 8 years ago in Japan. Of course it's archaic. But luckily the PS2's limitations can no longer be used as an excuse.

As for a PC release... OF COURSE it's going to be on PC. Tretton said console exclusive on PS3.

As for an Xbox release.. well.. XBL in it's current form doesn't play well with third party online-only properties (or online-only properties of any kind really). FFXI is an exception, being available to silver Live members, but they can't just give some games free online access and not others, if FFXI wasnt a few years old by the time 360 came around, it wouldn't be an exception at all. MS really only have themselves to blame for that one.

Actually, one thing I heard is this will be less of a LFG LFG LFG fest, and more WoW-ish with grinding quests instead of nonstop mob grinding.

Why oh why do the characters always have to look so damn androgynous with the same haircut. Too Asian, its a cool style but its over done (just like the WoW over-scale style is starting to be over done)

While good news for Final Fantasy Fans, its not really that big of a blow to Xbox360. Take into consideration that the Online games have a hard time matching the scope and story of the offline ones. This isn't a coup for Sony as much as it is a meh moment. Xbox360 users hate paying more fees to play a game they bought. This is why we seen other announced console based MMOs get pushed aside. I really don't see Xbox users being disappointed at this news or comparing it to the announcement concerning FFXIII last year.

I disagree with you about the story in FFXI. The story was one of the best parts of that game and was easily on par with the solo FF games. Have you played FFXI?

It's not a blow to the Xbox because Microsoft knows full well this title is going their way whatever SE told Sony..

Just wait for it.... ^_^

I wish Squeenix would make a FF game marketed towards NA/EU first and Japan second, so maybe we could use some western art and get rid of all the androgynous male characters. A more mature game for those of us that supported them back in the early years wouldn't hurt either.

Been waiting for this game for years. Hoping it will launch on PC the same time as PS3. I went from FFXI to WOW and now being bored with mmo's. This and Diablo 3 will be taking up all my future time.

I'll play this if:

-They somehow manage to make communicating with a controller instead of a keyboard work

-Their user interface isn't a pile of crap. I never played FFXI on the PS2, but on the PC at least, trying to dig your way through all those menus to do anything was about the least fun thing I've ever done.

On the other hand, they've clearly learned something since they made FFXI, seeing as FFXII almost seemed like an MMO and didn't suffer from any of the painful aspects of FFXI. I'm disappointed that I'm going to have to wait another 2 years for the next single-player FF, but this seems like it could be good too.

You mean apart from FF13 which comes for the Ps3 and 360 in the spring?
