EverQuest was and still is the pinnacle of PvE-based MMORPGs. EQ2/Vanguard both left a bad taste in our mouths. EQ2 failed to deliver due to the drastic separation/mutilation of the gameplay and lore. Vanguard failed to deliver due it being launched too early and the whole fiasco with Sigil/McQuaid. As is said, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Paying more attention to Vanguard now would be futile. The damage has already been done and no amount of PR will ever right the so many wrongs with Vanguard.

As much as I love EQ as it was, I would personally love to see SoE burn EQ/EQ2/Vanguard and remake EQ from the ground up with all of the classic mechanics/lore, adding in the elements they've acquired through their development experience with EQ/EQ2/Vanguard. I don't see this happening anytime soon, if at all, however. The message has been lound and clear for many years now. The only question to ask now is the same question we've always asked SoE. Are you listening?

If SoE is announcing a new game,I would prefer Ramayan 3392 AD than EQ3.

Well unless they do something radically different, IMHO, I don't see the point of rehashing a dog old title with yet another incarnation.

They already have a stable of tired old fantasy grinders (EQ, EQ2, VG) Unless they plan on shutting down a few to make way for the new, it would seem to really put themselves in direct competition with....themselves.

Their recent direction would probably point to something beside another generic fantasy game. It's a completely over saturated portion of the genre and IMHO there isn't any more room for P2P S&S MMO's.

The glory days of EQ are long ago gone and one thing this genre has shown us is that you can never go back.

Nope, many inside SoE came to realise that creating a "sequel" to Everquest actually detracted from the franchise rather than adding to it for a long time.

I doubt we'll see SoE in the Fantasy MMO market for a long long time & if they create anything new it'll likely be a new IP in a genre not developed by them before, perhaps horror or steam/cyber punk or hell, even an historical MMO.

Well I remember from a while back that SoE was hiring for a new "Flagship" project. And as far as I understand it, Everquest is their flagship, unless they are changing over to freerealms.

I'm not trying to troll, but who gives a crap if it's announced or not? There's like 50 other fantasy mmo's out there, and the fact that they can't pry people off of EQ 1 to begin with means that if they made EQ 3, then they'll just be stuck continuing to make updates for EQ 1 and EQ 2 in addition to EQ 3. I'm sorry, but that's just stupid to me. And besides, how different can it actually be from any of these other games that are already released?

EQ3 would be incredible! There's still so much work going in to EQ2 though. EQ2 is in my opinion the best MMO out there, full stop, and I always always come back to it (actually I always keep my subscription active)

If they made EQ3 what the first videos and screens of EQ2 we were showed, it would be awsome

Anyone remembers the first armor shots? The Blonde human girl wearing a full white plate set?

Unfortunatelly technology at the time needed to be scaled down. Even today we do not see a proper engine to create really good armor and other equipment

I like EQ2, it has awsome graphics, but a new game trully pushing the limits of today's tech would be excellent...

I just wish they would throw some advertising money into EQ2. They've made a ton of changes in the last several years that were geared at making the game less of a grind than it was when it was released. You level faster now, there's way more transportation options, guild halls, mounts, and loads and loads of other improvements. There are a lot of people who tried it at launch or even a year or two after launch that have never seen the little changes they've made over the years to make gameplay more enjoyable. If they'd throw a decent advertising campaign behind it, they might actually get a couple more subscribers.

As for EQ3, I hope they don't unless, like others have said, they throw it into a completely new genre like scifi. What happens to Norath 100,000 years in the future when technology has really taken over. Don't think I'd play it myself but at least it wouldn't be taking away from EQ1 & 2. :)

No. No chance, probably NEVER EVER.

1) Why would they make a game to compete with themselves. Just like blizz will not even drop a whisper of their next mmo, maybe this time an mmorpg, until they start to lose more of the market share. IT would be like a country making a bomb, then making a bigger bomb just because they have a big bomb. it wont happen until a challenger has a bomb just as big.

2) There is no market. Sony makes money. and they have been doing a crap job of it lately. They see that the market is changing We generation x n y ppl cant commit hours on end for overland raiding anymore. We need to sit down and get the time in that we can. The EQ model would need to change to a point where they might as well not call it EQ. Im still expecting a game to make a system of Q'ing up for a PVE experience, grabs a tank and healer and some dps, and throws you at something you wouldnt expect.
MMOs are turning into a quicker fun, less rewardign, less status driven game type.

They should call eq3 "Norrath Online" and keep what was good about eq1/eq2/Vanguard, discard the rest and build upon that.
