In-game items should never, NEVER be granted for RL attendance at a function, unless said item is offered for sale to general players later.

Not only is a geographical bias in play, but many MMO players are either low-income, unable to travel, or simply have a job and can't get away.

Companies need to decide: are they in the MMO business or the convention business?

I really detest this practice. Physical swag for physical presence.

I'm starting to get really sick of hearing about SOE in game items. I love EQ2 but it's like they use these small bonuses continually as carrots to get people to buy their stuff or in this case attend their show.

Fan faire is awesome for die hard fans and I'm sure is loads of fun so I don't say anything about that here, I just wish SOE would give their item push a rest. It's like they're a digital drug dealer. O.o

Blizzard is probably even worse about this than SOE, to the point that it's almost becoming an industry standard :p
