Last note.
There was a time when people claimed games like Everquest would never be de-throned. Yet they have been. WoW isnt going to lose all its fans but eventually it will not be number one anymore. Thats what makes a game a WoW Killer. The ability to takes its slot at the top.

Will WoW fall from it's throne? Someday, to be sure, though I'd bet all of my gold, plantinum, and isk that it'll be Blizzard that dethrones it.
As for the EQ comparison, honestly I've never thought that argument very compelling. Why? Network effect. EQ benefited somewhat from network effect, to be sure, but compared to WoW it was as an asteroid compared to a super-massive black hole. The two aren't really comparable on anything other then a uselessly gross level.
At this point, as with Windows (and for many of the same reasons), WoW doesn't have to be 'better' (how ever you care to define that) to hold on to most of its playerbase, it just has to be "good enough". My own personal boredom with the game aside, it is more then "good enough" and, barring some monumentally stupid move (something Blizz has never been overly subject to, unlike, say, NCsoft), it will continue to be "good enough" for the foreseeable future.
