"Organise a couldn't piss-up brewery a in."

Hi Laird! Sorry i gave you such a mean review on iTunes I feel bad, you and Panda really pissed me off that day. I flagged it as "off topic" they may remove it. I hope you guys are enjoying me and Caab being gone over there on GAX.

Come on guys. Give them credit. It would not be an anniversary if they didn't celebrate their failures too. Wow, a bomb event like this is just perfect to say, "look, one year later and we can still show you a good gaff".

The icing was the, we thought it would be cool to have you all show up and shoot a lot of fireworks for some cool screen shots.

Oh, snap. And you subs all thought you might get some fancy pet or something WoW style. Even a few of you hoped they might go the CoX way and give rewards for long-time subscribers.

I can't wait for next year to see what they do. It's gonna have to be pretty embarrassing.

Been subscribed since launch (with a solid month of beta before that) and the dearth of updates recently, combined with a steady decline in the population's maturity (at least that's how it feels), topped off with this absurd "search for pictures of coins on a slew of web sites" contest to celebrate the anniversary and I'm about ready to call it quits.

I'm sorry, but this is the sort of contest you run 3 months before launch... when you have NO GAME in which to have events. Even if all you can do is dress up a GM and have him yell things and maybe judge a footrace or two... then give out useless drinking capes as a reward (well, useless until they add good ole "drunken brawling") that would be better than what they did.

Funcom can mess up anything... sorry. I normally give tons of chances to MMOs I play... Heck Funcom is worse than all Korean gaming startups.

My god, I logged on about ten minutes after it was due to start and I am amazed I couldn't hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth before hand, so great was the pain. If Star Wars had been real the disturbance in the force following the death star blowing up a planet would of been nothing compared to the pain of not seeing an animated King Conan waving at them or doing a little dance, whatever was expected,

On the one hand you had Funcom whose event, even if it had of worked would of brought a new meaning to the words 'underpowered' (Failcom is still my favourite, especially if meaningful if you ever tried AO) versus an 18+ community a few of whom may well of really been crying into their keyboards. What the hell did they expect, sex with the person of their dreams and a crate of beer.

Hard to tell who was trolling for comedy effect (and it was at times hilarious) and those who really were in a state of grief because no devs had turned up to hand out the jelly and ice cream.

Same again next year I hope :)

After wasting a podcast on these guys, they go and screw it all up. Shocking. (not really)

Failcom strikes again.

The additional humor is that the 'gift' of the firework has an 8 hour cooldown... So you are only able to use it once a day for the most part. Not very party friendly.

There is a 59 page 'Letter to the Director from Roleplayers' on the AoC forums that discusses the 'little things' that put the RPG in MMORPG. Funcom consistently chooses to screw the very people who are keeping their game alive.

If only September were here and we could all be playing The Old Republic and Aion....

----

Turbine do a fantastic job of RPG-ishness in LOTRO - titles/achievements to add to your character background, birthplaces you can display as part of your name, musical instruments you can actually play, concert/party venues and so on.

If you're looking for a good RPG (with a mature fanbase) I'd suggest giving LOTRO a try.
