Huh.

I would've thought that an award named after a "Red Herring" would've been for something completely different.

A red herring means an initial prospectus filed to the SEC for a new stock or bond issue. Its called it because of a notice on the front in red. In a business sense, it makes sense for a magazine covering startups and hot companies.
