They should consider writing the ending conflict into the lore before they make changes.

And then* do it, only because players basically dictated the events.

Nyphur,
I couldn't agree with you more on almost all of your thoughts about factional war. As well as offer my own confirmation on the facts about the game play issues.

The good news is, that maybe CCP, via some pressure from CSM members might be taking a look at FW again over the next few months.

The bad news is, sadly player apathy & exodus from FW and pressing game issues elsewhere that involve way more pilots than FW, may all but put the brakes on any meaningful over haul.

Sadly enough, my corp "the 22nd", as well as a handful of other corps on the Caldari side, may have put CCP in a very tough spot when it comes to making FW systems matter, as we have waged a brutally successful campaign since December of taking back our systems and taking over Gallente systems.

Giving system occupancy its proper place now, would cause a great deal of whining from Gal FW pilots, as they have only 15 left as I write this, but wiping it clean back to "day one" would be a bigger injustice than giving BoB back their Sov. As this has been an effort of thousands of Caldari pilots over many months.

My opinion on the matter is, that CCP should call a truce between all 4 factions, give the factions control of what they hold and end FW (maybe Caldari Prime too).

Then they should then go back to fixing EVE for the industry players like they said they would with Quantum Rise, scrap walking in station for at least a year and use what they've learned from FW and use it to build a Pirate based FW game (Guristas, Blood Raiders, Sanshas and so on).

Regardless of what I or you think, anything is better than the current state of FW.

I pretty much agree with you 100% there Nyphur

In particular, the FW mssions need overhauling as I know of nobody who actually does them. This is probably because they're riskier then normal missions, take longer then normal missions, but don't offer better rewards than normal missions.

Sadly, the lack of progress in the storyline is hardly surprising. CCP have always adopted a method of jump-starting the story at expansion time and then completely ignoring it. The 1000 days the Empire went without an Emperor are a case in point.

Despite all of this though, FW is still more fun than POS warfare.

Excellent summery of the problems around factional warfare (FW) and CCP's lack of interest and the resulting downwards spiral.

When CCP announced they would release FW in the Empyrean Age (EA) expansion, I was thrilled and expected a lot of player-driven action, such as smuggling weapons through enemy territory to some resistance cells and players trying to intercept, industrialists providing resources (Material for War, eh?), and meaningful consequence and appropriate reward for all contributions.

What we got was basically just some new missions, some new deadspace sites with a timer mechanic, 4 new NPC corps, and some meaningless rank system, and that was the whole EA expansion. So much wasted potential.

Despite me raising a lot of FW related issues in the CSM, CCP just doesn't seem to want to commit to anything. Getting Roleplaying alliances into FW was an issue right from the start, and was one of the higher priority FW issues on the to-do list. Now almost a year later it still hasn't happened despite me bringing it up THREE TIMES in the CSM. This doesn't bode well for all other FW-related problems.

Unfortunately, most of the other CSM do not seem to care much about FW either, when I attempted to raise the lag problem through the CSM, it was voted down by all other CSM because it wasn't considered important enough.

Since I cannot run again for CSM, I passed on all FW related matters to my successor, Erik Finnegan. I hope he gets voted in and FW gets the attention it deserves, as most other CSM don't appear to care about FW.

I applaud your article and hope CCP reads it, and reads it well.

Thanks for all your efforts in the CSM toward helping faction warfare. It is my firm belief that FW is the perfect stage for small gang warfare. When I first got involved, I described as EVE as it should be played. I said "This is it. THIS right here is EVE. Get new players into THIS.". What I'd love to see happen is CCP devise a way to integrate FW style mechanics into corporate warfare and territorial alliance warfare to encourage small gang warfare. I had started writing up a document with some ideas I've had to achieve these goals but won't be able to get back to finishing it until after my final exam at the end of the month. Next month I'll dedicate some time to it and post it to the features and ideas forum.

FW deserves a lot more attention than it's getting and I think the CSM being composed mostly of people who hadn't tried FW was a big let-down for issues raised to the CSM. If they'd given it a good try, they would have seen how fun it actually was and realised the potential of the system. It's perhaps a failing of the process that members of the CSM can vote on an issue without having experience of it.
