At what point did it become our responsibility as consumers to know/care about content producers' financial success? What do subscriber metrics or profitability have to do with how much you enjoy a given product? Let the developer's accountants worry about the numbers and let's stay focused on having fun in their games.

Personally, I play and enjoy Free Realms (as a paying subscriber who's also spent $20 on Station Cash, for what it's worth). One million subscribers is a milestone worth noting, and I applaud SoE for reaching it.

I enjoy many game styles, FPS (L4D, CS:S) MMOs (WoW, LOTRO, WAR), any RTS and flash games so my tastes are all around.

And no I do not have a Wii but loved games with mini-games for the N64. I think FR is a fun game that is addicting but the play style and artistic view of the game is not for everyone.

Ever played an SOE game? EQ, EQ2, SWG, PlanetSide, Vanguard, etc?

Guess, what? Whether you are active in these, or cancelled 4 years ago, you are now one of the million users of Free Realms. That's right, your old account is activated and "subscribed" to Free Realms.

Way to cook the books. SOE, will Smed ever get his due?

A lot of those 1mil players are probably people like me who played it for an hour or so and then decided 'this is not for me'.

This is also important. One of the things I've always disliked about Second Life is that they always talk about "residents" which is "accounts created". I have an SL account, I've played maybe a total of 30 hours, none in the last year, but I bet my account is still considered a "resident".

I'm playing Free Realms right now, because I'm enjoying the mini-games, much in the way I continue to play Puzzle Pirates, but if they don't resolve what I consider to be their issues with social aspects of the game, I'll likely drop it, and certainly won't pay them any money. But for all eternity, I'll be counted as an account in Free Realms because its free.

As always, 1 million is a big number, and kudos to them for it, but it only means 1 million people have tried the game. A more important number would be how many people keep coming back.

D. CONSENT TO MONITOR

Please note that some games available on or through The Station may, when in operation, monitor your computer's random access memory, MAC address, and system and configuration files, crash data, etc. for the purpose of monitoring and improving quality and service and also for the purpose of identifying unauthorized third party programs running concurrently with your game which, in SOE's sole determination: (i) enable or facilitate cheating of any type; (ii) allow users to modify or hack the applicable game interface, environment, and/or experience in any way not expressly authorized by SOE; or (iii) intercept, "mine" or otherwise collect information from or through the applicable game (an "Unauthorized Third Party Program"). In the event that a game detects an Unauthorized Third Party Program, (a) the game may communicate information back to SOE, including without limitation your Station Account username, details about the Unauthorized Third Party Program detected and the activities or functions performed thereby, and/or details about your computer, and/or (b) SOE may exercise any or all of its rights and remedies under this Agreement or the applicable game end user license agreement without prior notice to the user linked to such Unauthorized Third Party Program

look what i found in encyclopediadramatica... i think that says it all
