Get used to this.

The party of Lieberman and Tipper Gore are in power again now, it'll be the early 90's all over again soon.

Wow extreme roleplayers have been slapped in the face with ID checks then popped in the mouth with the Taser Lawsuit then slapped again with this.
Is it me or is the adult industry becoming more of a liability to SL than a money maker. They should just as well get rid of all that trash and clean it all up while there is a grid still left.

According to the Lab, the adult-rated portion of SL is quite small - but it is something they've been actively supporting. Well, to a point, anyway.

Linden Lab's announced Adult Content policy is unlikely to help them much with Congress. It moves only the most extreme violent and sexual content, and actually relaxes the criteria for approved access to such content (expanded from only the "age verification" process of Aristotle / Integrity, to include "account verification" of payment information--either of which is to be adequate for access to the new "Adult" content).

If Congress isn't the intended recipient of this signal, though, who is? The measure is narrow enough that it won't deliver an environment satisfactory to education, corporate business, nor non-profits.

It may be intended to push just enough under the rug to placate the online gaming community's sense of wholesome sex and violence and to thereby reduce the incidence of exec-embarrassing blogs and tweets.

i think above all when kids see adult contents on internet, then it is for the parents that they are responsible to watch over them, they whant kids, they need to look out for them. we gonna make parents more lazyer then the most already are. I choose what my kids can see or can do on my pc,there will never be on his/hers room for themselfs so i couldnt watch them. Is not only sl were they can look at adult things,is on rl,on tv,on rest of internet. This is trying to bring water to the see what LL are doing with and i am compleet against the whole idea for a world what is already typt as adult content. Not that i walk over there naked, but my freedom of speech, fantasy and to be how i am as avatar will be gone after this all. And it is never secure, kids are smart and know perfect when their lazy parents do not watch so they can take the id of the parents and still be under adult contents or sims. This will never solve anything with the new coming adult content changes. But you will make the underaged much sneakyer then they already are. So parents get off those lazy bumbs and do not let other ppl watch over your own kids , its your job to do.

That was an intresting link above where in the UK the Gov. had a 16 year old girl buy a prepaid CC with her RL age and she was verified and able to buy adult content. I also noticed how it mentioned that it has to be more than check a box to prove that you are 18. If Second Life is toating themselves as a service then they very well fall under this. I also wonder what would happen should this group go about the Grid and see an orgey happening in a person private residence in SL with no age restrictions. I see the whole grid being age verified in the near future. I agree the porn crap is a small percentage and all that we are hearing are a few loud mouth kids whose parents should have raised them better. I have to laugh at Blue Lindens closing comments about Jumpman Lane who attacked Ann in the linden blog.
"Blue Linden says: EDIT: Okay, I'm deleting that last one which very clearly crosses the line, and I'm closing comments. We'll be back with more SL6B in the upcoming weeks!

I'd like to suggest that folks take a minute to enjoy the oh-so-reasonable Guidelines.

We want you to feel free to disagree, debate, even to perhaps vent a bit...as you can see from this post...but you'll need to stay respectful or so help me gawd I'll turn this car RIGHT around and they'll be no ice cream for anyone."

The Lindens are treating them just like the bratty little foul mouthed kids that they are.

I'm wondering why my comment that was posted long before most of these was moved to the end of the comments list. Bizarre.

Well Tateru, I think you're wrong. If they were going after actresses, they could have picked any number of names.

I bet Ursula Andress wouldn't much like being considered associated with extreme violence and pornography. In fact, she's not. And maybe I should tell her your theory. So that's a load of nonsense. You might as well it call it Marilyn, or how about Jayne, because that's what's going to happen to it when the regulators show up. Suicide and a car accident.

Germany has asked that child content not be displayable for children.

There's a way, its called letting sims and sim owners prevent it from happening, and putting it into the hands of the sim owners to decide it. Just like on the real internet. I proposed a rating system, which is exactly how the games industry does it - let the customer decide, but everyone is so focused on their short-term interests, and are unable to take the long view. Second Life will be finished eventually if they don't sort out a way to deal with the international problem. Only Linden Lab has the power to do this - there are too few of their customers now who can see the issues of the long term and surrounding ecology of law on the internet. I don't see how making Second Life an American service will make the company succeed, but that is exactly what most others are proposing.

I'm done. I better go reduce my land holdings before the gov prevents me from coming into SL to sell them first.

Linden Labs tried this two years ago when they made the first adult content rules with the age verification system. The adult content people refused to abide by the rules and let everyone in... even children. this has turned around and Bit Linden labs in the butt for not enforcing their rules.
We tend to hear about Gov. actions after the fact so my guess is that they have made their sweep. i did hear about one going on towards the end of last summer. So I would think that they have followed up on this and is telling Linden labs to enforce the age rule.

Is anyone writing to their congressman/woman about this?? If you know of such an effort, can you reply to me? I understand the need to protect those under 18 and especially to protect us from unwittingly interacting with them in SL, but there has to be a better way.
