Tasos should spend less time calling out reviews and more time enabling the game to actually be bought and played. What should he care how bad it is reviewed, the damn server can only handle 10k players at a time. And most people can't even buy the thing.

If he were a high profile undersubscribed game, yeah a review like this would be horrid. But as it is darkfall is oversuscribed for its tiny capacity, and this will have no effect on either sales or player count.

You are probably correct but if I recall DF was made by a small Indie stuff (which really wasn't much more then a bunch of beer buddies) So they are probably concerned about this thing called...the future.

They do need to work on getting the distribution of this game sorted out, I would be interested in trying it if I could ever get into the darn thing.

What future? It took them how long to get the current 10k up running? 6+ years? People were accusing it of being vaporware.

It will be lucky if they get the NA server up, and it probably will get filled just as fast. Unless they get some outside backing I don't think they'd be able to expand enough to make bad reviews an issue.

I haven't played this game because I'm not into hardcore pvp, however if that reviewer played any game as little as they say, he isn't qualified to write anymore than a first impression.

The amount of pathetic backlashing against this review is absolutely hilarious. Yes 9 hours is a short amount of time to review an MMO, but if someone who gets PAID to play games cannot stand it for even that long, what does that say for people who have to PAY to play it?

Darkfall is an absolute mess of a game, without any sense of polish, quality or entertainment to it. I can understand why people would see past this for enjoyment, but a reviewer's job is to report on what a game is like in their opinion. If something is so unplayable that you wouldn't want to pick it up again, why is it necessary to explore every nook and cranny?

Even if Eurogamer's review was short, biased, bad, whatever.

Mr. Flambourias response is worse and puts them in worse position, once you are a company, unfortunately, you must act as one responsible entity, a reply like that one does not give such an impression, while acceptable as a response from an individual, it is not a response one expects (or should accept) from a company.

Factual errors aside, if a game is not fun in the first hour, then it isn't a good game, full stop. I paid money for the thing, it isn't a job, it isn't a privilege, it's a service. Games are the only product and service where people actually think you need to WORK for something you just paid for. If the carpet cleaning guys came over and demanded you put in two hours of work to see what it was like to be a carpet cleaner before they took over, you would never hire those guys again.

If you're not enjoying yourself the moment you enter the game, from level 1 on, it isn't worth playing. It doesn't matter when it starts to get fun, if it isn't fun immediately, it isn't worth the money.

And THAT is one of my big beefs with WAR both times when I quit I had people screaming at me "Get to tier 4 get to tier 4 its hella fun." and the first time I just said $%^@ that and just left because I refuse to spend many dismal hours waiting to get to the endgame.

The second time I played for several hours on a friends account (With her permission) while she was out of town who HAS a tier four character and while it was alright it still had a lot of problems and I was bored sick of leveling.

Man, all of this hate just to feel "cool".

Half of the people hating either haven't played or haven't actually read up on all of the details of this. Then there are the people who share a trait with the people who didn't read up on all of the details. The ones who did play and were promptly turned off by the game simply because they did not research it and realize that they couldn't walk in this game alone and become the king of the world.

I just don't get why people who haven't even played and have no intention of playing are hating. You haven't even played the game. You don't want to play the game because it isn't the kind of game you would like. Why is it that you must hate the game? Can't you just ignore it? Like people ignore Second Life and Final Fantasy XI and SWG etc etc. It is just straight up ignorant hatred.

Should the people who like this game apologize to you for having a different definition of fun and competition?

To some others in the comments:
Aventurine is an INDEPENDENT DEVELOPER. Do you know what that means? That means they are not Blizzard or Mythic or EA or SOE. They are a few guys with some money and a passion for their favorite type of game. They took 6 years to build this game, with probably a small fraction of the manpower that the larger developers have, and if you ask me I would say it is pretty damn impressive for a few guys with a passion for their favorite type of game.

Do you honestly think you could do the same for your favorite type of game?

Have you noticed that a lot of the people who preached about the "good old days in UO" are in love with this game? Did you ever stop to think that maybe that is Aventurine's target audience? Does it upset you that you are not their target audience?

Do you not understand why they cannot simply just "make more servers" or "open up sales to everyone"? Are you completely oblivious to the details surrounding this game? Do you think for yourself when writing your comments or are you just regurgitating something that made you laugh on the WoW forums?

I'd just like to take this time to tell the ignorant, prejudice, and prepubescent to start caring about how you think about things in general. If you keep up the same charades I have a feeling you'll be some sad motherfuckers. But hey, at least you'll be able to reminisce about the times when you still had the internet and made fun of this one game that you didn't understand.

I stopped and downvoted right after seeing the good old "I don't see you doing better" line, as if everyone is expected to blindly buy any and all products released on the market that happen to fall outside of that individual's field of expertise. Sure, the game may suck, but who are you to claim you're not having a good time or the product doesn't work right? You can't make it yourself, so just shut up and put up with a shoddy product.

In the world of competition, we don't move the starting line because of disadvantages. Your product is either better than the alternative and will be purchased or it isn't better and won't get the sales. Anything else (like complaining about investment capital) is a lame excuse for a shitty product.

quite a few people can hate something without having played (or done) it because it stands against what they believe is right for them, its their personal opinion and as far as they are concerned, valid.

I think it makes the developer look very unprofessional, to respond the way he did. To me, it looks like he's doing this because he didn't get a good review, not because he wanted to point out fraudulent behavior.

Let's be frank, Mr. Smith, most of you journalists are absolute useless people, your critical discernment isn't any better than the oaf next door, you shouldn't be allowed to judge games, unless you proove your worth before, which you don't.

You got to write reviews only because other pricks read your crap and liked it because they were drunk or because you sent 'em a check.

Journalists should have the highest elite-level tastes, not being console junk fans, like the EG person there.

Otherwise say it before-hand, that you're an Oblivion and Tekken guy, and i'll know that i can ignore the whole thing.

Anyone who has played the game for more than a few hours should be able to instantly recognize that the Eurogamer review is false. He makes several statements in his review (such as weapon switching taking 4 minuets, your chance to hit determined by weapon skill level, ect) which are completely inaccurate and can be diss-proven by anyone with a game account.

These things are not a matter of opinion, if it was then it wouldn't be a big deal. These are actual lies about how the game mechanics work and it shows that the reviewer doesn't even understand how the game at its most basic level.

If you don't like the game cool, to each their own. But to be a respected game journalist and to blatantly lie about the product he is being trusted to review is pretty disgusting. Tasos has the server logs and has invited the Eurogamer guys out to check them. Due to the numerous inaccuracies in the review, (and remember, I'm talking about him lying about basic game mechanics like interacting with an object and not his personal opinion) it's more than obvious that Tasos is right, and he has every right to defend his game.

If you don't like a game and want to give it two stars fine, but take enough time to actually play the damn thing so at least you can be honest about your criticisms in the review. As a gamer I expect that much out of any game journalist seeing how its often based on their recommendations I check out a game. I don't think it's too much to ask.

Never the less it is sad, it is not a mater of how wrong EG is, it is how unprofessional AV is and that is the sad part, true I don't care about DF, not my cup of tea, but I care about AV, I would love to see a development house from my country to act professionally, it would give me hope and that is not what I see from AV and it is kind of sad...

What is sad to me is that usually it is only AFTER the first few hours of an MMO that it starts to go downhill.

Still, I suppose with certain games (like Eve) you have to play for a while to really 'get' it.
