I can't find where the NDA has been lifted so I won't comment on much regarding my experiences so far - but the article sure sounds pretty exciting.

It's only lifted for the press event mentioned in the opening paragraph. It's still in effect for the testers.

Sounds damn fun. Maybe I will resurrect my insect-based hero from CoH.

...really alien invaders? y'know it's been done, do something new there's not really a reason to copy everything from a game you willing gave up, eh cryptic? there just seem to be too many similarities between COH and CO, like they aren't even trying to come up with something unique, there is a lot of comic book hero plotlines to draw upon why rehash? I grudgingly admit that the travel powers sound pretty cool. I'm still having a hard time with the graphics, sometimes they look really cool and other times they are just repulsive to me.

The Qularr invasion is part of champions lore. But then Champions lore has every thing including a kitchen sink somewhere :P

Just so you're aware, Champions Online is based on Champions, a table top adventure game somewhat similiar to DND or White Wolf dice games. The Champions Universe is chock full of lore. If you look at the source book, you'll find nearly 100 alien species all outlined. Champions takes place in a fictional universe, across space and through time. There's thousands of years of lore in the timeline. ^__^ It's a great game. Go read up.

I am not sure that there is anything that could be in the tutorial that you could not point out and say hey that is just like CoH. I think that speaks well of CoH but I don't think you can really call foul on CO for it. Now if they had a plague out break that you had to go and deal with for the tutorial then that might be a little bit different.

"Painstakingly long ordeal" ... So traveling without a power would be a very careful ordeal? Weird.

Also, "honing in" is not an expression. It's just "honing" if you mean "improving." If you mean "focusing on," you should use "homing in," with an m.

And your corrections aren't even correct.

painstaking: the action of taking pains : diligent care and effort. So yes, painstakingly long would work, as in it takes diligent care and effort to traverse the zones.

Honing was exactly what he meant, it works, and it doesn't need fixed.

Thank you for the really informative run down on the travel powers, I think it's safe to say it's this kind of info which what really speaks to the prospective gamer. ;)

Will there be also be a rundown on what the powersets are like too, or how the defense system of regen/dodge/resist/shield work?

Very pleased to hear that the travel power is gained at level 5, but a little grumpy to hear that epic zones still have to be traversed.

As much as I like awesome travel graphics & animated wings, flying through empty air for minutes at a time between each mission (or even mission section) in CoX got old fast - I'd much rather teleport freely between hubs and only then have to worry about mobility.

Actually, the travel powers are pretty speedy. Even with the size of these zones it didn't take minutes for me to move to where I needed to be.

"...your world goes all Frodo-wearing-the-one-ring..."

lol love the description and new word/phrase!

I am surprised at how many unique travel powers there are and that you get them so early. That was a BIG bug with CoH/V.

Between the different hero based MMOs I figured Cryptic would have the best over-all because of their experiences with CoH/V. It looks like I may be right. Looking forward to it!

"Something I was incredibly happy to see was on-map circles telling me the area my mission objectives were located. This is a feature that's really become standard for MMOs as far as I'm concerned."

That is not an industry standard. It is a personal preference. And let's be honest here, it's what is killing questing and immersion inside an MMO. Just because a few MMO"s have map markers does not make it an industry standard. You might want to realize the difference between industry standards and personal preference's. Questing in a MMO is usually a industry standard whereas special emotes or map markers is just a preference.
