I don't get it. My operating system and the many web / performance / IM / twitter and other applications all already provide this functionality. What does "PlayXPert" bring to the table and how is this any sort of breakthrough?

The idea is that you have the functionality of all of those things in a transparent overlay that you can use within your favorite PC games. Sure, you can use Wowhead (as an example) in FireFox, but you have to alt-tab, run it on another monitor, window the game, have it on a laptop, etc. by and large. With Playxpert, you can check items via the wowhead plugin.

Think of it as Xfire on steroids and you'll have the general idea of why it's nifty. It's up to you whether or not it's your cuppa. For me? This could be a handy time-saving device. For others? Might suck the life out of their gaming. We just put the information out here - you get to decide how (or if) you can use it. :)

I downloaded it and tried it out and I really like it. I like the fact that I sign into IRC, AIM, browse the internet, and control my music without having to leave the game. The scan game button doesn't work too well and only found 2 games installed on my computer and it was a pain to manually add the rest of them. And the fact that the overlay doesn't work on my computer because they don't support my OS. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and they don't support W7 or Vista 64 right now. But once they get it working, I have a feeling I'm going to really enjoy it. It's small enough to hide in any UI, and is quick and easy to use. Plus the fact that they're allowing people to add different Widgets makes it pretty awesome. Can't wait to see what people create for it.

Thank you for posting this! I hadn't heard of this software but I'm really looking forward to trying it out now. Half the reason I don't play PC games terribly often is because of the annoyance of switching to an IM client in the middle of a game, since alt-tab breaks a good number of games. =)

Lazy companies who can not make 64-bit software yet. Microsoft should just stop selling 32-bit out right since 64 is far superior anyway.

I have never used it but it does look great since I use xfire already but then again I play WoW in a window mode. Plus my system is fast enough where I can alt-tab back and forth no problem.

I checked their forums and they are working on 64bit drivers for Vista/W7 as top priority, along with getting Win7 support in general.

Once that happens this will be great, but for now, its just a dream :P
