"Scott also believes that PvE- and PvP-oriented players may not mix, so the team has been considering a special PvE-only server-type."

No, that's not it. The alternative server type they're considering is a hardcore-style PvP server, with no safe zones (similar to Jumpgate Classic). If you look on the forums, most of the Jumpgate Classic community is saying that Jumpgate Evolution is too "casual" as it is.

Hopefully you're right, Puff. I like PvP, but I also play MMO's to have fun with all the other players. The "hardcore PvP" types, however, are often impossible to play with. Not sure if it's immaturity, competitive personalities, superiority complexes or some combination, but if they have their own server then there'll likely be less of them on my server ruining my experience.

Trust me, I'm right. That's what's being discussed on the official forums right now. Nobody in their right mind would want a PvE-only server, as the current server type never forces you to PvP, so it's already friendly to those who only want to PvE.

I feel the exact same way as you. We'll see what happens once beta testing starts. As of now, it seems like 99% of players want two different server types, but the developers still want to see if their one server type with their optional "Hardcore Mode" will actually work.

They should call the PvP server "Tranquility" to make EVE players more comfortable.

Woe betide this game if Goonswarm enjoy it.

I'm really getting excited for JGE. I'm pretty sure, that is it recivies decent marks at launch, I'll be playing it. It has the potential to over take my main mmo, but certainly be my second title.

Wow. I had no idea that JGE was taking steps to make room for soloists and PvE players. I liked the original Jumpgate (the first MMO I played, actually) but PvP seriously bores me after a short while, and I eventually ran out of interesting things to do.

As Mitch says, for whatever reason, hardcore PvPers can't seem to tolerate the existence of any playstyle other than their own, so a "hardcore PvP" server may be the best solution. Each playstyle faction becomes responsible for its own level of fun in-game.
