I imagine that a lot of people don't cover this area because it touches upon some of the most closely gaurded trade secrets in the industry. It can be interesting to talk about game design in the abstract, but for things like server architecture, the devil is in the details and those details often are under NDAs.m

It's true; a lot of the good stuff is NDA'd. But I won't be talking about how Turbine's server architecture is set up, as interesting as that might be. There's plenty to discuss in more general terms, fortunately -- I have plenty to say about best practices, operational techniques, and so on. Most of which are basic principles I learned back at Sun and AltaVista.
