Usually games give players a heads up when they're going to be changing some things, so this way people can prepare or comment on the upcoming edits. This isn't the case for Darkfall, however, as the development team has literally surprised the player base with some worthy changes to the game.
One of the biggest changes is the reduction of maximum positive alignment from 100 to 10. This means a player will only be able to kill someone from their own faction once before they feel the sting of the "rogue player / murderer" social system, instead of letting players gain reputation up to 100 and then go on a virtual killing spree without any punishment.
The other huge change (and one of the most wanted changes) was the removal of players gaining skills by attacking invulnerable players. Before, a player could wail on another invulnerable player and quickly level their weapon skill, making their attacks more potent. This oversight has finally been fixed, but not without repercussions.
Keen of Keen and Graev has said that the invulnerable player skill up was a well known problem and has lead to significant abuse. This means players who may not have taken advantage of that bug or new players to the game will not be on the same level as other players on the server. Aventurine has also removed the ability to gain weapon skill from the starting weapons, making it even harder on new players to gain skill. It's unclear as to how Aventurine will deal with this large imbalance of power, if they will deal with it at all.
The patch also introduces some other fun changes, like the inclusion of gates on cities and the ability to unbind people from clanstones you own. Check out the full patch notes on the Darkfall forums, and also check out Keen's overview of the changes on his blog.

why not just put a cap on starting weapon skill gains instead of completely eliminating it? sounds like people are paying to beta test at this point.

Isn't it obvious that a game that hasn't really been released is still in beta?

Yeah, except for the fact the game HAS been released.

Please do tell me where I can go and buy the game freely, not at some odd hours, that the developer chooses to open their online store, for less than 2 hours every given week.

MMOs patch their games all the time. Making some changes due to unforeseen abuse doesn't mean it should have more beta testing. There are hacks today that abuse WoW, should that game still be in beta?
It's just patch, just be glad Aventurine caught the bugs early and actually did something about them.

Sounds like Aventurine is doing a pretty pathetic job of this game so far.

Its a patch in the right direction but its still not great.
The alignment system is a minor change that is SOMEWHAT helpful but really dose nothing to punish players is a "Harsh but fair" manner as was origionaly promised.
You can still lose the "Murderer" tag by killing a few Red enemies and have all the privilages of a "Good" player.
Walls and gates can still be Jumped by players using the ingame launch skill (or hacks)
The ability to kick people off your bind stone is good.
The fact that you lose ships and mounts every crash is still a major issue as is the large number of hackers.
(Yes I'm aware that Tasos has shitted everyone that AV is tracking and banning them all but I don't think they have the rescources/skill to actually do that and even if they are its a closing the barn door AFTER the horse is out manuver)

I think Bliz, Mythic etc should be pouring money and expertise into Adventurine....this is the best way to keep all the fuckwads away from the decent MMO's....Darkfall is their wet dream. Where they can run around ganking the crap out of each other with gay abandon.
That is until they whinge and bitch they have no fresh meat to gank and people stop playing....or move to games with a population....
We need to keep these people there on Darkfall!!!!

I would not go so far as to say this game sucks. I got in about 2 weeks ago and have found it quite refreshing to see a different game system in an MMO for a change. I played COH and matrix online for awhile then switched over to WOW. After WOW I tried some WAR and then ROM. Throw some EVE in there too. Aside from EVE the core gameplay of just about all mmo's feels the same to me (of course there are exceptions, but generally).
I do not think Darkfall is great at the moment, but I think they had some really interesting ideas with their UI. The right click to open a new interface is different and I have found the lack of support from developers in game to be very EVE like. I have not been forced to a new area, forced to kill 10 rats and I have even decided at this point to not join a guild even though its making advancement hard. I basically have approached DF as I did Oblivion, hell with what I am suppose to do, let me just roam. Granted, had my ass handed to me more times than I care for, but such is life.
I have enjoyed it and do not find the new changes to bad, hell I have not even gotten one weapon skill to 25 yet so they do affect me, but I have a large pile of swords in my bank so no biggie. I think DF will evolve just as EVE has not from the developers but from the players, which is kind of what I enjoy about MMOs. I would like to see some content added in the future for people to discover however.
Honestly, just waiting for Jumpgate and Champions, but its been entertaining thus far.

@Shadowlords....well done sir, your comments have done nothing but cement the reputation DF has.
Let me be clear...i play WoW, but i am no "carebear WOW refugee", in fact my nightly fun of late has been a protracted and drawn out EVE cold war with a rival corp, the stalemate of lethal force being circumvented with production and diplomacy wars.
So i PVP in as hardcore a fashion as can be imagined, especially considering the fact that if we lose this one, we cease to exist as a corp effectively.
Yet, DF, from the impression you just gave me, is not a pvp game at all, but rather a refuge for entitlement cultured, selfish, myopic self-styled "hardcore" gamers.
Did you get bored of Alterac Valley?
Do you think being a dick equates to being hardcore?
Do you think being a dick gives a good impression of the game you advocate?
Do you think at all, and if you do,what does the wider internet represent to you?
Heres some basic definitions in anticipation of your no doubt witty reply.
Opinion: personal feelings based on a mix of facts and belief.
Fact: A universally provable truth (i.e 1+1=2)
Belief: A view held that is based on socio-political, cultural and educational influences. (for example belief in creation, as opposed to belief in evolution(although believing in evolution is like believing in 1+1=2))

Heaven forbid an MMO get a patch that drastically changes gameplay and NOT be slandered for being still in Beta COUGHworldofwarcraftCOUGH!
People are stupid and don't understand MMOs, even if they've been playing them for a while.

I don't hate WoW. I play WoW... well I have issues with it.
But my issue is everything that trolls thinks WoW is perfect and any flaw with other games makes it absolutely unplayable.. WoW is FARRRRRR from perfect, but that applies to other games.
I don't get why people don't get these games a chance to grow like they did WoW. So I say to good day to you sir!
Also I love me DK in my full valor set. lololol

Other games don't have a PR cheerleader claiming the game was feature complete and stable before release. Other games don't have a PR cheerleader claiming hacking is not an issue and that anyone who says otherwise has an alterer motive, despite tons of evidence to the contrary.
And besides, the state of other games is not a valid excuse for another game to have issues.
