Given all the eye candy they have released by their marketing team, it would also be nice to know what sort of grunt my machine would need to actually get that visual experience. Probably something above recommended specs?

I'd imagine they have all the goodies turned up to maximum for the screenshots. Those are pretty low specs for sure.

I have a budget machine that is just barely above these specs. While it excites me to see a developer making a game that will be flexible enough for me to run it, I would really like them to show comparison screenshots or videos (like the kind that were all the rage when the PS3/360 battle was at its peak) of the game running on full grahpics settings versus minimums. I still want to try the beta, and, let's face it, I'll almost certainly pay to play this game, but some transparency would go a long way with this low-end user base they're trying to woo with these specs.

Agreed. I'd hate to see the lo-spec version looking like the original BBC Micro version of Elite.

That should be an option! More games need to have wire frame modes.

These days you could play that level of graphics on your TV remote!
