7 days. That's just enough time to get everyone thinking AoC is amazing due to the Tortage content, but not enough time for them to experience all the suck that comes afterwards.

To each their own. What game do you think is good Mitch?

Persoanlly, I think the whole game of AoC is great. I actually think Tortage is kinda cool, once, but the game world after is waht makes the game amazing.

7 days is really too short. 14 would have been alot better imo

Depends where you get your trial key from. Fileplanet is doing 14 days free for registered users. It didn't say paid members only.

I've been playing for a little over a month (avoided it completely at launch because of the bad press).
I can say now that I love it. I have 1 char at 40, 2 at 25 and a few others.

Tortage is definetley interesting, but to say the game sucks after that just isn't true.

I suppose I'm biased somehow in having played to 80, quit, returned recently to give it another try ... and quit again.

Little did you report that this recruiting blitz is completed with a NEW game trailer over at gametrailers.com

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47488.html

So, now they've got a trail (took them long enough) and they've got a new trailer (what, was the old one not good enough?). But, that doesn't really mean the game got any better than it previously did.

Actually, this is an odd one, as the trial keys - according to one of the posters on Eurogamer - won't work with existing but dormant accounts!

they should have waited until DX10 was complete, 1.05 was on live (it's going to change the face of the game. Why introduce the game to new players BEFORE it's release?!?!!?) and further, they should have given "inactive over 90 days" players 14 free days.

They got to wrapped up in how impressed the current playerbase is w/ the improvemts and additions. But, they showed their hand to early IMO.

The game is x100 better then at launch, but DX10 and 1.05 are going to be the last two pieces of wha the game SHOULd have been like at launch. So, why they're introducing it before it's perfect is beyond me.

I swear to god. If I ever have a game company, the "marketing" guys will be in charge of finding artists for posters, and "Giveaway" contests. That's fucking it.

-----

That's the crazy thing: if they wanted to appeal to the former players, they should have just given a week (or even fortnight) of free play. But the trial code doesn't reactivate old accounts - you have to start a new one.

So yay, you get to go through Tortage YET AGAIN.

And then if you want to re-subscribe you either have to abandon your old account and characters or abandon all progress you've made with this trial account, thus losing all your progress AND exclusive items.

No wonder people think Funcom are a laughing stock.

They said there would be 7 and 14 day trials, depending on where you get the key. Also, if it takes you 7 days to go through the Tortage content you aren't doing it right :P

Beyond that, the game is still pretty fun. I encourage anyone who hasnt done so already to try this game out,

Actually, for a player new to the game (and especially players new to MMOs), a week in tortage would be just about right albeit somewhat slow. Given the learning curve of the game, I think a week would give a new player opportunity to really explore Tortage well and only just see the start of the entire world outside of Tortage, which is probably what they're hoping will draw people into the game. This offer is for NEW customers, returning customers wouldn't want to make a new account and a new character.

I really despise the constant handing out of items. I spent $50 on faith when it launched and got absolutely nothing special. It seems like now you can get a mount, epic bag, and stat boosting rings for trying the game and then buying it. Lame.

They really should allow old accounts to try again for 14 days. Granted, chances are I probably wouldn't even bother -- but if they ever want to try and get anyone back this isn't the way to do it.

I leveled a character to 50 before I quit but I still have great hope that they will turn this game around. A lot of potential here. I hope they keep at it.

I played at launch but didn't continue after the first month. Tortage was a great experience, but felt lost afterwards and there just didn't seem any reason to keep going. There is potential with AoC, but I just don't feel inspired to come back. There are too many MMOs out there right now and the one I am in is keeping me happy. But I hope the best of luck to them.

For me as a player AoC didn't have a class that pulled me into it. I could not relate to any of the classes and I think that is ultimately why I left. I guess I can see if my game install is on a harddrive here and fire it up (after who knows how many updates download).

Cheers.

I played AOC when it first came out - I loved Tortage and I thought that the game was so beautiful looking that I temporarily left WoW for it. That changed after a month or so though - too many problems, patches that introduced too many new problems, and I went back to WoW once more. I've since left WoW for LoTRO, but that's another story.
Conan's world was a beautiful one, it had so much potential, but I wouldn't go back just to be disappointed again. I often say that the best thing I ever got from that game was the soundtrack - that was truly awesome.
