Good stuff my man Extreme gamer has it correct, if game companies were to regulate the sale of the currency not only could we stamp out the chinese out of the deal but, we could possibly keep that 2 billion floating around in the western markets..... Not communist China.... But hey game makers know how to make games and line their own pockets. I wouldn't expect them to know anything about global economies..... Anyway publishers Flex your Epeen and keep up with the banhammers.. and encourage the hacking and stealing of thousands of accounts and the freeflow of 2 billion+ a year out of your own country economies to Peoples republic of China. That way they can fund their 1 world order, 1 world currency campaign.. HAHA

Gold in MMOs is often used in a completely ridiculous manner which encourages gold selling...when I was raiding hardcore in WoW, I had to grind my ass off 2 hours or so just to be able to make up repair and potion costs...and that was just to break even! I can completely understand people buying gold in those circumstances.

You should not have to waste an hour a day doing dailies you don't enjoy, just so you can enjoy a game.

I like it when games like EQ2 and Vanguard have put in their own RMT services. They are secure and I know what I'm buying. In addition you can sell your own items. I was paying for my subscription and my wife's when we were on EQ2 just by selling our spare plat via the exchange.

Retread of old, tired ground; there really isn't anything new to say about RMT. But since everybody else is repeating myself, I'll once again make the comparison to Prohibition: leave it legal (or at least unpunished) to buy contraband, but illegal to sell it, and you guarantee two things. You guarantee the maximum possible corruption, fraud, and crime. And you guarantee that there will be more of the contraband, not less. We'll know the first time some MMO gets serious about RMT, because it'll be the first time they ban /buyers/ as well as sellers.

Even then, we won't be completely rid of it. Vice isn't possible to eradicate, only minimize. But RMT can only stay a vastly multi-million dollar industry as long as customers feel no fear of getting caught buying from them. If customers had to fear that the person offering to sell them in-game gold was a GM looking to ban their account, if they had to worry about the possibility that the GMs had identified the gold seller's mule account and the act of receiving in-game gold from that mule was going to be enough to get their character deleted, then there'd be a whole heck of a lot less RMT.

Another typo, you put "Infamous" instead of "Constantlybitching".

Games should regulate an exchange but not sell the item themselves. I could just see wow doing this and two weeks later epic flyers cost 20k gold because "the director needs a new mercedes, er balance issues...."

I object to the "hypocrisy" label. There are many gamers who "profess a hatred for" RMT. Then there are gamers who think it's a wonderful thing. There's no hypocrisy unless we're all one person. In which case, our monthly fee is really really big.
